Putin intends to take back Ukraine piece by piece so it doesn't appear to the West to be a full-on invasion.
If the zones he takes the people are pro Russia and they speak the same language and have the same culture then what's the crisis? Why is that our problem?
Russia will take the zones that the people welcome the Russian government and wants to be part of Russia and not whatever you call the government of Ukraine. Again, it's their issue.
...putin's a sly fox...he's doing the same thing the west does, calling them 'peace keeper's', and as an added 'poke in the eye', is using the same verbiage on the world's stage to rub it in the west's face...seems if you just call yourself a 'peacekeeping force', ya know, going in to stop all the 'unrest', 'secured the integrity of democracy', same old bullsh*t the west has been spewing for decades, it's all good...this is 4G warfare...
Putin realizes the American public won't stand for Biden putting US troops in harms way. Calling it peacekeeping mission let's Biden (sort of ) save face.

I guess people in the Russian Ukraine are more than happy to be protected from Ukrainian army attacks and killings.
But Hitler was busy murdering millions of jews. That was the real issue.
His real aim was to invade all of europe and kill the jews... much different than what is going on here.
Not at the time. The Holocaust hadn't really gotten cranked up yet. Sudentenland was about Hitler grabbing territory to expand Germany. And the present situation is about Putin grabbing territory to expand Russia.
