That's the 64,000 ruble question. (A sum that, if things go on for much longer, will buy a medium-size Big Mac meal.)

I'm seeing this story, posted as many as 10 hours ago, and not on any mainstream media sites.

Is it possible this is incorrect? If you google thermobaric weapons over Cherkasy, you can see some private people sharing this back and forth, and again, up to 10 hours ago.

Kyiv comes with symbolic religo-historical importance.

So it was telling. Russia has no valid argument for this invasion. If the Russian representative's speech had said something like "All we want is it in writing that Ukraine will never be allowed into NATO, be neutral and we will retreat...." he would have made more sense.
So why didn't he?

Instead he did the very thing that NATO was formed to defend--invasion, a bit ironic.
This is about more than Donbas and NATO. During the 20th century there was a resorting of ethnicities and redrawing of borders that still left "untidy" multicultural areas. Russia's geography does leave it potentially exposed to military incursion. The answer is not to send tanks into another country. Russia now has become THAT European country.

Then there is also water for the Crimea and the Dnieper River valley. And the Ukrainian shale gas reserves.

Never underestimate the chaos from even a shrewd man who seeks a legacy.

In short: this is why our constant bleating on woke and equity is why no one takes us serious.

This writing is what objective reporting looks like, coming from someone with strong views, but does not interject them

read every word. its not that long, should take most no more than 5 minutes.

btw, as I typed this, excellent analyst jennifer griffin, a woman, explained nearly word for word russian nuclear doctrine, exactly as I described it 50 pages ago. Tell me, since no one thinks women can be smart, how do we have adults like her who understand it TODAY, as well as we were taught it over 40 years ago, coexist with the morons, yes morons who are not seeing this as the most dangerous moment in our time? I am swearing at tv screens when she speaks first, and then jen comes on with her drug induced drivel about being less reliant on oil

Zelenskyy is weaing body armor and carrying side arms, broadcasting to his people from a cell phone, being a leader.

where is ours? I have heard nothing...
Where is our "leader"?

He has his own kind of armor going on, and I think it protects a very specialized type of spot.

It's imo a slightly less dignified situation, but hey that's just me, ymmv, yada yada, ...

The Putin fanboys, as is their wont, have bet on the wrong horse.
Spent some time in Romania a few years back that came complete with geopolitical discussions - some highlighting the naiveté of many Westerners, particularly Americans. A theme was Putin was dangerous, and Russians may well follow him. These Eastern Europeans FEARED Russia. They know in their bones that dictators can spew oppression and chaos.

Just like Russia worries about sharing the Northern European plain with other political philosophies so do its neighbors. Sending in the tanks is a tactic used by Russia before.

International Judo Federation suspends Putin as honorary president

This hurt Putin more than Biden’s actions to date.
