Former President Donald Trump praised Vladimir Putin in a podcast interview on Tuesday, describing the Russian president's justification for invading Ukraine as "savvy" and "genius."
In an appearance on the "Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show," Trump said Putin's recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk — two-thirds of which are controlled by Ukraine and are not recognized by most other nations but backed by Russia — was a smart move.
"I went in yesterday, and there was a television screen, and I said, 'This is genius.' Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that's wonderful," Trump said when asked about the news. "I said, 'How smart is that?' And he's going to go in and be a peacekeeper."
Trump claimed that the reason the Russian president chose to invade Ukraine now — rather than during his own presidency — was that he had a better relationship with Putin than President Joe Biden did.
As China pointed out, the US and the West in general have initiated most wars.
Quote:
“Among the 248 armed conflicts that occurred in 153 regions across the world from 1945 to 2001, 201 were initiated by the #US, accounting for 81% of the total number”
Actually Putin already "won" because a big part of this was to show NATO he will use military force against NATO expansion. That message came through.
NATO's reply is that they will not send troops to such a conflict, only sanctions. Russia received that message as well.
The Russian forces have destroyed some Ukrainian weapons, and secured the Donbass region. These are secondary objectives.
Putin also wants to push the boundary of NATO-Russia conflict from Ukraine, westward to the borders at Poland and Romania, and to do enough damage to Ukraine so that NATO won't accept it as a member.
Perhaps an unintended effect of this push is flooding Europe with refugees. A post pandemic Europe will have to deal with refugees not only from Syria, Afghanistan, and now from Ukraine. The situation will get worse as more Ukrainians flee.
As for the economic sanctions, Kremlin expected it but went ahead anyway. Washington wouldn't have done that, but then we're Americans. We don't have the same values and concerns.
You can lose every battle but still win the war. It depends on the Ukrainian strategy and the will of their people. Unfortunately I think the Ukraine will end up devastated regardless, with Russia's economy going down the toilet again.
Yup.
That's how we won our independence. Washington never won a face-on fight, but he kept outmaneuvering the British and harassing them.
The Brits won the battles, but could never control the American will to resist.
In the end, the fight was costing so much for such little gain the Brits, who had become boxed in once more, finally just quit.
When incomes to wars of independence, the will to fight is everything. That's the lesson we were handed twice, once in Vietnam and again in Afghanistan.
If the people refuse to be subdued and remain willing to pay the price of independence, they will eventually win it. Or keep it.
After 30 years of independence, the people of Ukraine refuses to give theirs up now.
Putin may win all the battles, but the Ukrainians will win the war.
Not for long. Kyiv TV center is inoperable and so is the center of psychological warfare there. Of course, EU will do its best to maintain stream. But, maps are stubborn thing.
Also, out of curiosity, maybe spend some time on Kyiv and other cities live cams. I watched 4 yesterday, midnight in Kyiv. Life as usual. Not a single explosion or, even gun shot. That's during "fierce street fights". Those cams are priceless witnesses, curious, when they will take them down.
Major cities across the US during the BLM riots looked far, far worse LMAO!
Surprisingly, the US did not receive any international sanctions for "racism" or "police brutality" oddly enough...
