The US has been downsizing and disregarding it's nuclear weapons programs and the result is that Russia is well ahead in nuclear weapons. The US has been complacent and naive since 1991 and asleep at the wheel. With this re-awakening from being overtly threatened with nuclear strikes if we act conventionally, you can count on the exact opposite of what you seek - a sharp increase in the arms race and nuclearization.
That is nonsense. The West has been updating its nuclear arms for years. And unlike other countries such as China, the US has no no-first-strike policy.
I think it was a warning to NATO that they can strike anywhere in Ukraine. They will hit weapon shipments and foreigners thinking about going into fight.
I’m pretty sure NATO and the rest of the world already knew Russian missiles can reach just about anywhere.
I think they just wanted to test them. Or show them off. If it’s the latter, I’m not impressed.
Interesting twitter thread with video of escaping Mariupol residents who are blaming the Azov Battalion for the killing of citizens and the bombing of the theatre.
Greek refugee from Mariupol: “Ukrainian soldiers stopped and threatened us, Russian soldiers calmed us down”
The woman’s account of being attacked by the Ukrainian military matches that of another ethnic Greek from Mariupol who said he could not escape the besieged city because he would be killed by the neo-Nazi Azov battalion.
Pre Gulf War Iraqi military was stronger than today's Ukrainian military. The U.S. had a better battle plan then, than the Russians do now.
Because we used a strictly aerial campaign the first 30 days to soften them up and achieve absolute air superiority. We had the luxury of time. We didn't have to succeed in 3 days or even 3 months. We had UN-approval and the backing of most other nations. Russia did not have widespread world approval so they wanted to blitz and get it over with before anyone could make a fuss about it. If they could have taken Kyev and installed puppet leaders in a week, they could have stalled much of the reaction with promises to be out in xx weeks and making a show of slowly withdrawing forces.
People keep showing maps where there is hardly any advance of Russian forces.
Then again, most of Ukraine is sparsely populated. Why would the Russians even go there?
From what I heard they have been in the cities that matter for days now, encircling and isolating many of them.

Russians may be encircling and isolating cities, but the world is encircling and isolating Russia… it is hopeless for Putin. He’s already lost.

Russia has always had the most nukes even after their own downsizing.

We just got out of a 20 year war.

If humanity seeks a nuclear war over a non-NATO state, civilization was never that special to begin with.
(Reuters) - Germany and Qatar have reached a long-term energy partnership, a German official said on Sunday, as Europe's biggest economy seeks to become less dependent on Russian energy sources.

I hope they will ban Russian energy ASAP. Little chihuahua Putin needs to know his place.
