Those who consider themselves to be seriously interested in this Ukraine invasion might learn an awful lot about Putin by reading up on the Chechen War.
Russia invaded; Russia lost and suffered great loss of life and equipment; Russia appointed Putin, re-invaded and pounded Chechnya to powder.
Chechnya, however, was a republic within Russia, not an independent country. It had a population of about 1M and had some oil, but Russia was willing to take huge losses in order to win.
Chechens, who are Muslims, carried out terrorist bombing within Russia and that stopped but it took YEARS!
The Ukraine war is very different, but has some of the same people - Putin, etc. - involved.
Your thoughts?

Putin is ordering 134000 men between 18 to 27, be drafted into the military between now and July. I wonder how many Russians in this age group, will try to get out of Russia before their draft notice comes. For fear they will be sent to fight in Ukraine.
My guess is as good as yours.
But what I've heard couple of days ago, is that there was a huge wave of anger among the Russian public when they've heard about the possibility of the "peace agreement/any kind of settlement" with Ukrainian government during this latest round of negotiations in Turkey.
As I've said, the torture of Russian POWs (execution ISIS style including,) caught up with them. ( All while THEIR ( Russian that is) initial policies were just to take the paperwork from Ukrainian POWS stating that they won't fight against Russia any longer and then they were fed and set free to go home.
Plus they've heard all these stories from Mariupol of the refugees that made out of there alive, that they were used as the live shield by Ukrainian military. (Which is basically confirmed by the Washington Post now, albeit in a very cautious manner.)
So yeah, it's all catching up with the Russian public, ( not to mention the communication with the Ukrainians that are saying that there are plenty of Ukrainians out there in the South-East, that don't want to live under the Nationalists regime, but they are too afraid to speak out after the Russian betrayal back in 2014.)
So the last I've heard - there was already a stream of volunteers in Russia willing to join the army as it is.
But those are the news on the social media.
In real life - I don't know.
I just keep on watching what's developing as any of you - I simply can watch videos in Russian/Ukrainian on Youtube, on top of the English-speaking ones.
So I hope I am getting more objective picture of what's going on.
The Ukrainian Red Cross was caught using ambulance cars as troop transporters
If the page asks to open Telegram, just reject, the video plays without it...
Appalling that an apparent retired Navy man/woman would deliberately, disingenuously and dishonestly disparage and undermine America's Commander-in-Chief by disseminating a bogus partisan political spin of 9 words that do not reflect the Biden administration's strategy or the United States' policy. Let alone a spin which favors Putin's bogus narrative and the ugly aims of his Russia which is the adversary of all democracies across the world.
Erasure may wanna get that one tattooed on her hiney
What "olexandra matviichuk," what "tattoos" - that's what the Nazi in Ukraine are known for - their tattoos.
So now when they are trying to escape from Mariupol changing in civilian/women's clothing, that's how the Russian/DNR troops are catching them - checking for their tattoos.

The Chechens have been screwed over by Putin for decades. Putin's Chechen puppet, Kadyrov, has been one of the most comical characters throughout this Ukrainian invasion. He shows up in $1500 designer Prada boots, this guy isn't going into battle anytime soon despite his social media efforts to convince that he's in Ukraine fighting Putin's war.
Quote:
Calling on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to “apologize to Russian President Vladimir Putin, to save Kyiv,” Kadyrov said he has 70,000 fighters in Chechnya to fight alongside Russia.
But besides his speech, the Chechen leader came under censure for wearing the expensive Prada boots.
While some made fun of him saying how could one be an anti-imperialist who wears such pricey boots, others accused him of being a “so-called Muslim [and] Putin’s man.”
Yes, he and his designer boots will save Kyiv from Western Imperialism. The guy is a joke, he is a muslim only by name.
True Chechens have actually aligned with the Ukrainian side.
Quote:
Chechen warlord and Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov boasted of his soldiers' part in Russia's war in Ukraine. But many Chechen and Tatar Muslims are defending Ukraine and settling scores with the rulers of their homelands.
Kadyrov has gone to some length to pretend he's fighting for Putin in Ukraine. They posted a photo of him on a prayer rug at a gas station supposedly outside of Mariupol. Except, those gas stations aren't located in all of Ukraine. It just seems so low effort, he's such a joke. He hasn't even left Grozny.

A sign appeared behind him, exposed the leader of the Russian republic of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov After he announced that he was among his soldiers who are fighting fierce battles in Ukraine, especially in the southern city of Mariupol
A photo of Kadyrov published by media loyal to him, taken near the “Pulsar” gas station, located exclusively in Russia, revealed the manipulation of the man who is one of the most loyal to Moscow, according to the British newspaper “Telegraph”.
The Chechen leader, who is prominent on social media, on Monday posted a photo of himself at a gas station he claimed was taken outside the besieged city of Mariupol, where he was seen kneeling on a prayer mat and with a machine gun nearby.
However, the sign on the pump behind him reads “Pulsar”, the brand name of the state-controlled Russian oil company Rosneft, which does not own fuel stations in Ukraine.
I bet half the Azov Battalion was hiding under the slides and swings, those rapscallions! Russia totally must keep bombing the playgrounds too, Putin's direct orders.

As much as I hate Chechnya, you need to see what it looks like today under Kadyrov, after Chechens settled their disputes with the Russian government for the last twenty years or so.
Russian President Vladimir Putin decreed on Thursday that foreign buyers of Russian gas would have to use special accounts at Gazprombank to pay for the import of Russian gas.
A foreign buyer is now obliged to transfer foreign currency to one special, so called "K", account. Gazprombank would then buy roubles on behalf of the gas buyer to transfer roubles to another special "K" account, the order said.
Gazprombank would then transfer rouble funds from a 'K' type account of the foreign gas buyer to Gazprom's (GAZP.MM) rouble accounts, the order said.
That sounds like a shell game perfectly suited for someone to get rich by skimming.
