Precisely, this mess like many things in life not to mention wars is complex. Multi-factorial. News stories frequently are presented one sound bite at a time. The attention span of the general public is short.

I know, right?

Russia can be losing and still carpet bombing.

Not sure what the comprehension problem is.

The fuel depot that was hit was near the Russian city Belgorod ...approx 40 kms (or 25 miles) north of the Ukranian-Russia border. According to what I've read, they hit it by using two Ukrainian airforce helicopters....helicopters can travel that distance of course, the question is how they were able to fly into Russian airspace and not get shot down.
The arrogance of the air defender force thinking that the the attacking force would not cross the border. They probably moved the defenses forward to protect the convoys in Ukraine.

Some Russian social media reactions to the news of the attack…

The spring draft is normal, of course, but then somewhere I saw a proposal for a simultaneous second 'draft' (perhaps that's the wrong word) this time of experienced veterans. Googled to find it and couldn't, so probably not a technical draft. This is the closest I came:

Mobilization efforts are likely to start producing diminishing returns as Russia moves through the categories of fully-trained and recently-released reservists into categories of people further removed from their initial military experiences and/or those who will undergo hasty training before deployment to the front lines. Individual replacements for battlefield losses are unlikely to have the same training as their predecessors, and new units or those reinforced by these augmentees will not have undergone unit-level training prior to employment. More units and reservist replacements will likely appear in Ukraine, therefore, but the net effect on Russia’s actual combat capability will likely be small and diminishing.

Putin said no new drafted conscripts to Ukraine but he already lied about conscripts in Ukraine so who knows. Russians pressure placed on conscripts to sign contracts? Depending on what the Russian public knows of their Ukrainian losses, perhaps less successful?

Interesting video on American volunteers (not connected to the government) training locals in Lviv on defensive tactics. Two-week stretch only with these Americans now out of the country. For their safety, CNN held the video until their departure. Lviv said it wanted the video shown so Russia could see that they were ready to defend every street and apartment house if the Russians come.

I read they are also calling up 100,000 reservists, people who did their draft time already in the past but are still eligible to be called back.

That must be what I saw with the phase used it was a "second" overlapping draft. One military analysis pointed out the grave Russian error of not having a second wave available, with this yet another factor in the inability to fast take territory and the capitol but also the folding of the resupply lines and the lack of preparation to provide immediate medical care to its wounded. It simply expected the Ukrainian military to fold. No other offensive strategy.

"The videos show extremely low flying helicopters, literally just a couple of street lights height over the ground. Radars of anti-aircraft missiles cannot detect something flying that low because of interference in line of sight due to structures and trees. ... Reading articles and interviews from US fighter pilots who participated in Operation Clear Skies with Ukrainian fighter pilots, even the US fighter pilots were surprised by how low the Ukrainian ones flew. US pilots don't even train at those levels. It seems a perennial technological disadvantage to Russians in Donbas has necessitated Ukrainian fighter pilots to learn that skill, and it probably extends to their helicopter pilots too."

Here's the strikes on video.

https://www.airforcetimes.com/flashp...-city-reports/

"Samuel Bendett, a Russian drone warfare expert with the CNA think tank, previously told Military Times that one of the most “inexplicable” parts of Russia’s war against Ukraine has been the Kremlin’s failure to successfully integrate layered air defense into its combat formations. Russian doctrine calls for battalion tactical groups to include significant air defense capabilities.

“[In Ukraine], Russia doesn’t seem to display the very tactics, techniques and procedures that it’s practiced for years and sought to perfect in Syria...[to provide] adequate cover to its ground forces,” he said."
