If Russia gets bogged down in the Ukraine for more than a week, it is indeed possible. Maybe not the scenario OP is asking about, but a coup, possibly. If they cannot take Kiev in several weeks, it would become more likely. The totalitarian leaders don't do too well after losing wars.
I don't have any answer. If Putin starts a nuclear war all the top men will be well taken care of in the bunkers .There could be others that could assassinate him thinking he's way over the deep end. I don't know any of the men around him and what they're thinking so who is to know. They may be too afraid to go after Putin if it's a failed attempt.
I think this is probably the case. Word is that Putin is VERY Isolated and paranoid about Covid. He allows only a few Hardliners to even see him and they must undergo tests first. I would think that Putin allows nobody to get near him in person (remember the photo of Macron and Putin at that incredibly long table), that everyone has to go through a Metal detector and that he uses a Food Taster.
That is because Putin himself poisons people. Many who do things themselves know it's possible that it could happen to them too.
I am leery that if Ukraine gives Putin a real bad headache because it's not going so well , Putin may start looking into his arsenal and use something much stronger. He could do this out of frustration. That fear is sitting in the back of my mind.
No, because since the pandemic, Putin seems to be keeping everyone at least a distance of 30 feet away - no one can get close enough to assassinate him.
