We needed to do this yesterday. Drill, baby drill!
From the article, quoting Governor Dunleavy: "We have billions of barrels of oil still in the ground. We’ve got about 126 trillion cubic feet of gas that we can deliver to our friends in Asia, as well as our west coast. So, we’re prepared and ready to do our part, if this administration allows us to.”
A president who loved America and wanted to put her people first, and who wanted to support our allies in Europe and Asia, would have already asked the governor to turn Alaska's spigots on full blast. Paging Joe Biden. Mr. Biden, please pick up the white courtesy phone; you have a call from your countrymen and their allies.
That's a silly comment. In 1867 we knew little about oil.
Eh, Rockerfeller started investing into the oil industry around 1860. If you don't think a juggernaut like him wasn't whispering into the ears of the politicians back then about land purchases and grabs that would shape the investment futures of America, then you are a fool. Heck, his first major oil corporation would be launched in 1870, 3 years after the Alaskan purchase.

Yes lets open up and damage all the protected areas that were created and in what 5-10 years they may be ready to start pumping down the pipeline, very self-serving on the Governors part.
How about the oil companies take advantage of the 100's of leases that are all ready available and start developing them. Its a win, win the environment continues to be protected and they get to drill/pump in localities that are all ready approved and closer to the US Refineries. Or they could just increase production on what they already have but that would lower their profits and we can't have that...

And it always seems to be exploitable for a quick buck in conservatives minds...
