There is a current meme going around: “If you want to know why so many Americans own AR15s and ‘high capacity’ magazines, read your newspaper or turn on your local news channel.”
How many of those brave Ukrainians will have been trained with the AKs they’ve been issued? It’s a little late now…

… but better late than never.

This was written by Massad Ayoob, and ex-cop and one of the best firearms legal experts in the world. MrsM and I have been fortunate to be able to take 3 of his courses. What a guy.

And, what a great short essay!

You never know what the future holds. Firearms give you a fighting chance to preserve the country you hold proud. Do you trust human nature? Do you trust your leaders to make the right decisions? Of course in today's political climate we are told that national pride is bad and that we should all be self hating and guilty.

it is better for the volunteers to run errands, cook, help carrying heavy stuff, nurse injured soldiers.
civilians do not know how to fight, they could hurt themselves or each other.

run errands? Like, go pick up your dry cleaning?

it does show that we should all, upon adulthood, know how to properly use a firearm. Don't get me wrong - I don't.

That knowledge could be useful against a home invasion (and if I had a gun I'd shoot first, ask later), an overbearing government force, or a country invader.

AKs are easy to use. Assault rifles dont require a lot of practice to be used for what they intended. Just line up sights and it hit what you point up to 100-200yds or more reliably. You only need to learn how coordinate fire with teammates

If they have watched any action movie, they would get the concept how to use it. I learned how to use the M-16 when I was around 14, by myself.

But AK47 against tanks is like throwing eggs at rocks. Ukrainian defenders need heavy duty weapons.

A Ukrainian went out to buy bread.
It wasn't a lucky day for him as he was stopped by somebody with an AK-47.

Was this recent, like after the invasion? Are these guys armed to fight the Russians? For some people wielding a gun give them this ego trip that makes it easy to shoot people.

It seems the Ukrainian government gave guns to everybody who wanted a gun.
Now, they terrorize people and shoot everybody who looks like a "spy".
