Biden supporters make a big deal about sending Ukraine $1 billion this year while we’ve been giving Putin $2.4 billion per month for his oil.

There wasn’t anything to squawk under Trump re. buying oil from Russia because Russia wasn’t invading/bombing Ukraine. Come on, man.

So yes, we DID become an exporter under Trump, but also, it probably would have ended with our without the pandemic, and no matter who was the President. I defend Biden against the GOP lies (and there are many), but you are wrong here. Trump is not responsible for loss of the surplus, nor was he responsible for it happening in the first place, nor would it have been different "if not for the pandemic". It only accelerated the inevitable.

Yep, I read the article wrong and thought it was Nov. 2020. I assumed it took that long for the US oil community to ramp down production. My bad.

Even then, it was a net exporter of "petroleum products", not crude oil specifically. Right?

...The top oil producer and consumer exported 89,000 more barrels of crude oil and refined petroleum products a day than it imported in September, the first full month of a positive oil trade balance since the 1940s, the Energy Information Administration said Friday....

No, it was actually under Trump that Russian oil imports increased.

well, if you look at the capitol - the big one, there is a resolution on the floor about the 595000 bpd we do import (its actually now larger since that number was last published. if it is was what you say it was under trump (and I aint gonna look it up), it has tripled and every gop congressman and around 4 outta 10 democrats want that to stop.

call your congressman and tell them 'no russian oil now!'

Biden voters have covered their mirrors in black shrouds. They are too ashamed to loon themselves in the eye, as well they should be for destroying our country.

btw - I dug a little over the weekend, we import russian 'oil' on both coasts. on the right coast, it heads to refineries around philly/del

on the 'left' most of it does not make it here, it refuels our pacific military bases (logistics being what they are), hawaii (ditto) and - go figure - the PRoC (peoples republic of california) buys finished product for the LA basin cuz it costs too much to use domestic. roll them eyes.

"Should be" based on, what? Define "energy independent" while you're at it.

When a country is able to produce enough of its own fuel to meet its own demands. We have the resources.

We've never been truly energy independent under any President in recent history (since 1940, I believe).

True, but what does that have to do with Biden. We are (mostly) a free market. Do you want to socialize our oil production so the President can control how businesses run?

When I see people who blame our oil import/export balance on the President (of either party), I assume they've either been influenced by biased media from one side or the other, OR they are advocating for socialism, OR they simply don't understand how oil markets work.

Since you made the comment, can you please explain what Biden SHOULD have done to force downstream oil companies (which are owned by their shareholders in most cases) to buy only domestic oil?
