Obviously, the blame for President Putin's actions falls directly on President Putin. However, the United States and Europe continue to fund President Putin's endeavors through the purchase of Russian oil. The U.S. and Europe have enacted sanctions, however, they are weak and should have been enacted weeks ago, before any invasion actually occurred, when Russian troops were first spotted near Ukraine's border. It's too little, too late. The U.S. has been very reactionary, rather than being pro-active to prevent this catastrophe, which is a sign of weak leadership.
If we continue to fund the enemy, through purchasing their oil, rather than drill at full capacity and sell our oil to Europe, won't we, and Europe, be seen as hypocritical? After all, we, and Europe, would be rewarding President Putin's bad behavior.
I understand that it takes time to start drilling, but we haven't seen squat from the White House on this.
Gasoline and other petroleum products are imported from Russia primarily along the East coast, due to a lack of refining capabilities and economical infrastructure pipelines.
After a nearly 40 year decline, US production of crude and natural gas has skyrocketed since 2009 due mostly to technological improvements in fracking and horizontal drilling.
The US has never been net energy independent as the term is defined that production matches consumption.
I blame our Democrats and liberals in Western Europe who disrespected and poked Putin into action...Trump had the right idea to respect him and have a dialogue to ensure safety and prosperity for all.
It’s been nothing but diplomatic discussions.
It’s wishful thinking this would not have happened under Trump.
US oil companies can ramp up production anytime they want, however since it's a profit based decision they will wait until oil price exceed the $100 barrel price. The oil companies objective is not the help Americans save at the pump, their objective is to increase their profit margins - that's the capitalistic approach that we live and die with.
Does not help the East Coast which lacks adequate refining capabilities.
It's a pretty complicated situation and sad that everyone has to make it all about US politics.
There has been a long effort to both reach out to Russia and at the same time old cold war alliances and such have pitted us against them like a bad ex.

Correct.
Biden shouldn't have canceled the Keystone pipeline....big mistake.
Nope. It shows that We live in a country that still have different points of opinions and won't get shot or jailed(the left have different plans) . I don't want to live in a country that everybody falls in line for our foreign policy because let's be honest, before I was born, it has been crap and full of holes and today I'm 51.
I want to live in a country that we can challenge power and each other on wars and foreign policy. It makes you sick but I love it. That is what makes the U.S. or what is supposed to be.
