On one of the news stations it was suggested that Russia will level most or all buildings with bombs when they are at the city limits of Kiev. Then the war will be manpower against manpower and upon this ground war in the center of Kiev there will be heavy casualties. That is the way a Russian flag will eventually fly.
The West will only have sanctions to impose. Ukraine may become Chechnya #2 unfortunately.
In 2003, the United Nations called Grozny the most destroyed city on Earth.
Yes sorry on the omission of Grozny.
--------
This southern Russian city—the capital of the republic of Chechnya—was flattened in a government military offensive that began in late 1999. The aim was to return the breakaway, Muslim-majority region to Moscow’s control, and the block-by-block fight left no neighborhood untouched.

An urban conflict favors the defender and reduces the effectiveness of more advanced weapons.
Ask the Germans how Stalingrad turned out for them.
Ultimately, Ukraine will be defeated by Russia. However, the partisan war that follows will be perpetual and very costly for Russia. I would imagine that the west will supply the partisans as long as Russia occupies ukraine.
Russia has a pretty small GDP and rebuilding ukraine after the war will not be cheap.
Putin is in a bind on heavy civilian casualties and indiscriminate bombing. The more he does it, the stronger the case for him being branded a war criminal and the more Ukrainians would hate him.
I presume his objective is a change of government to a pliable puppet regime, not a widespread devastation for which his puppet regime would keep asking the money to rebuild (or fall pretty quickly).
BTW, the more this war continues, the more likely there will be a standstill, not a Putin's victory. A cease fire, that is.
Dissent within Russian military over the war. Lots of casualties, blown up tanks, downed jets, etc.
Economic collapse due to severe sanctions.
Protests in the streets.
Perfect recipe for a coup.
Knowing Putin, he would likely order deadly shootings of protesters at that point. Putin is a dangerous person, a thug who happens to have the title of President.

There was no justification for Chechnya situation, they should have been allowed to become independent. Ukraine situation is complex as the Ukrainian govt was persecuting ethnic Russian minorities. Doesn't excuse full invasion but it's more complicated than Western media thinks If the US was brutally suppressing ethnic Mexicans in South Texas with over 10k dead I think Mexican wouldn't sit by and do nothing.
