... not that Putin cares .

The International Criminal Court opens an investigation into potential war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide in Ukraine dating back to 2013, but also covering the conflict sparked by Russia's invasion.

Prosecutor Karim Khan said he launched the probe after 39 of the court's member states requested an investigation, a process known as a referral.

The move allowed Mr Khan to proceed straight to investigation without the need for judicial approval.

Is now critical to “preserve properly all evidence of war crimes”.

“Any Russian leader or officer carrying out orders that amount to war crimes should know they face ending up in the dock of a court and ultimately in prison.

(I just wonder how they would plan to arrest Putin and put him to prison).

Putin will be prosecuted in absentia, but that's fine. What's important is that his 'siloviki' henchmen are now afraid of what's gonna happen to them -- and distance themselves from the madman.

There are already signs that even the FSB might not be behind the war 100%. Here is a report that FSB itself tipped off the Ukrainians about a Chechen group sent to assassinate Zelinsky -- presumably because they don't want to be tried as war criminals. I don't see any other explanation.

For all the good that will do. It would only matter if Putin gets replaced.

And there will be no consequences. Nothing more than theatrics.
