I don't know if the real guy exists or not, but he's so anonymous that any soldier who has a lucky shot could claim to be him. How are the Russians to ever know otherwise?

So true or false, I think this is another Ukrainian master-stroke of psychological warfare.
Unlike the Taliban, Russian military has well trained sniper teams armed with high tech weapon to counter sniper. Also, unlike the Russian, Talibans had no protection from small arm fire with armored vehicles.

If I was a Russian troop, I’d be more concerned with Ukrainian troops armed with modern AT like Javelin or NLAW that can take out a Russian MBT with one shot from a distance or behind cover.

Oh, just give it up already. Like I said, the guy is BS. It was all BS propaganda, and his BS story of being there caught light and he's just trying to make excuses of why you won't see him there.

Again, real soldiers don't make some huge announcement they are coming. Those that do are doing it selfish reasons and don't care one bit about the people or the cause. Just like rich people who donate to charity. They only do it to get tax write offs and to prop up their image that they are "oh so generous and kind" when in reality they too are just selfish and doing it for their own image.

You get a little sense of what that is like by sitting behind the earthern berm at a shooting range, raising and lowering targets for the shooter. While there is no intention of the shooter to shoot the person manning the target, you get the very real sense that movement laterally could be the end of you. Of course, that is a tiny taste of the fear men must experience knowing that if they raise their heads, they will be dead.

Yes- SNIPERS ARE SCARY- that is what makes them so effective and feared by troops.
For a movie view of a sniper, Saving Private Ryan with the American in the bell tower, or Enemy at the Gates with Zaitsev, the Russian sniper.

Huh, this reminded me of a cute machine, developed in the USSR. It was designed to locate sniper rifle scopes and then disable snipers by, pretty much, shooting laser beam into it. Also, worked great for any guided missile with optical guidance.
though it is available, it is considered inhumane weapon and, as such, does not participate in active military action. Pretty much, blinds snipers permanently.

But you have options:

Told you so....

After two months the sniper guy has returned home because the war was more than he thought he didn't realize what real war is against a real modern trained force, the Russian forces were more powerful than what he was use to in Irag and Afghanistan, and the Ukrainian government was hardly supportive of them or had the gear and supplies to disperse. All those videos of the government handing out AK rifles to everyone was propaganda.

And there are plenty of foreign volunteers fleeing Ukraine saying the same thing. The west, the U.S.A are limiting information to people, only pro Ukraine media reports are allowed. Ukrainian soldiers are taking supplies from the west and bartering for personal profit just like the Afghan government forces did with our stuff we gave them. Ukraine is as corrupt as Russia. Years of trying to train Afghan national soldiers while they sold equipment and profited in corruption only to fold like a cheap suit when we left.

Well yeah - but Carlos Hathcock (White Feather) is right up there with him. If I remember correctly from my reading about him, he might very well be the guy that pioneered using a .50 cal round for a sniper engagement by - wait for it - using an M2 Browning Machine gun for a 'reaching way out there' one shot sniper kill.

In 1967, Hathcock set the record for the longest sniper kill. He used an M2 .50 Cal Browning machine gun mounted with a telescopic sight at a range of 2,500 yd (2,286 m), killing a Vietcong guerrilla.

I know. I have his biography. I do think he is second to none as far as his hunting skills and patience…..

What's been doing damage to the Russian military has been mainly the drones - especially the Bayraktar. For some reason, the Russians were slow to adopt this tech (drones) but have been using them heavily since April.

Interestingly, the Bayraktar drones already changed the tone of another conflict a few years back - between the (Russian backed) Armenians to the (Turkish backed) Azeris in Nagorno-Karabakh. Despite having all sorts of advantages, the Azeris could never take back NK due to Armenian clever military tactics, but with the drones from Turkey, the Azeris crushed them for good, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Nagorno-Karabakh_war
