Just cut their salaries to the median income level of $60k or whatever it is and then make it mandatory for them to buy an EV. They won't have money for the rest and that's what they want to do basically to everybody.

The Democrats are fixiated on global warming. Fine.
The solution between EV's and ICE is simple.
For the top 100 metro areas in the United States REQUIRE that all vehicles sold must be EV's. IF you live in one of these areas, you cannot OWN a ICE. You can rent one if you want to go on vacation.
That will require minimal changes to the grid. The metro areas can turn off streetlights, porch lights, and all-night advertising to have ENOUGH electricity to charge EV's.
For the rest of the USA, you can own any vehicle you want. EV's don't work in rural areas or in low population areas. Few people living there anyway.
EV's make sense in metro areas. ICE make sense in rural areas.
Hyundai will cover the battery for the entire life of a Kona. The battery has an 8 year, 100k mile warranty. If you are in CA, they come with 10 year, 150k warranties. Battery life will typically cover enough miles for the typical lifespan that consumers hold cars for anyway.
If someone attacks the power grid, you have a lot more to worry about than charging your car. Besides, the vast majority of gas pumps still require electric and can only run for a limited time on alternative sources from generators, so all of the worry about the power grid going down will still eventually apply to ICEs anyway when no one can get gas pumped.
There are also alternatives, like installing solar panels and capacitor storage units. You can become completely self sufficient even if the power grid went down.
The govt will eventually adapt to new technology. It may require yearly taxes based on mileage once everyone has EVs so that there will be funds for infrastructure maintenance. This was already in discussions anyway long before EVs started gaining more and more market share. Life evolves with new technology. Not a big deal.
I also think in our lifetime we will eventually see solid state battery powered cars hit the market. All of these discussions about charging times etc will be made moot. In fact, we will look back at all of the criticisms of EVs in the future and laugh our butts off at how dumb they were.
I don't get the criticism.It is new and exciting tech. As an investor, I love this. New tech always brings amazing opportunities for making tons of money, for creating new jobs, and making new companies.
The criticism isn't necessarily towards EVs as a concept, but rather the fact that there are some people who are trying to push them as being something that they're not.
They're not ready for primetime and they're not as "green" as they're made out to be.
If you want an EV.....fine, by all means go ahead and buy one.
But don't try to mandate them or talk others into them if they aren't interested.
And certainly don't try to force them into existence with others tax dollars when the technology isn't there yet.
There is nothing to discuss. EVs are the future and that future is coming at us fast - really fast. At my age, I doubt I will ever own one, but my kids will and by the time the grands are big, that is all there will be on the roads by and large. They will laugh at the old people and those silly arguments they made against EVs, just like we did at our grandparents against the horseless carriage.
Nothing to compare end of story. My EV cost me $6 a month to charge vs my now sold 2021 Camaro that got 8mpg in the city kitty on prem that would cost me $120 a month driving 50 miles a week deek.
