Former President Donald Trump said there is "a lot of love" behind Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts to make "his country larger" on Sunday as Russian troops continued to invade Ukraine.

Trump discussed the conflict during an appearance on Fox News host - "Jeanine Pirro's radio show Sunday". He said he believes Putin's ultimate goal is to eventually rebuild the Soviet Union, and he went on to explain what he believes to be Putin's mindset.

"You say, what's the purpose of this? They had a country. You could see it was a country where there was a lot of love and we're doing it because, you know, somebody wants to make his country larger or he wants to put it back the way it was when actually it didn't work very well," Trump said.

Honestly --- To make "his country larger" on Sunday as Russian troops continued to invade Ukraine.

Why must he defend Putin? Ideas and apologetics? This Bromance is ridiculous.

He was trying to figure out what Putin was doing it, and trying to see "Putin's view".

Where did he say he approved of any of it?

A standard tactic in war, is to try to figure out what your enemy is trying to achieve and why... and then deny it to them.

Well known to everyone except hysterical liberals.

So if Dems say Putin wants the old Soviet Union back you agree now? Cause Trump said so? So Latvia and Lithuania should fall too?

I agreed before when the Democrats were telling Republicans in 2012 that the 1980s wanted its foreign policy back.

And recognizing that doesn't imply approval, just an understanding of Realpolitik.

This Bromance even goes against Fox News limits.... They were threatened with being cancelled by Trump telling his base to cancel them unless they changed.. Re-stored its praise to Trump ..

Now the truth even Dems claimed. Old USSR BACK ALL ALONG EVEN DURING TRUMP AS PRES. Now cause Trump now says it is Truth? Seems that way. Trump must acknowledge it first to be Truth.

Trump puts his foot in his mouth again.

Using the words "a lot of love" now in regards to Putin, in any context is incredibly disrespectful to those who have suffered re the war.

Trump either doesn't understand that or just doesn't give a flying f. I'd go with the former

In either case Trump, or anyone else that is true of, should never have been and should never be POTUS.

There some trumpers in this thread with a similar lack of understanding.
