"Good" and "bad" are just simplistic, amateurish concepts. A master and slave have a "good" relationship as long as the latter does everything they're told and never speak up for themselves.
I am reminded of back when Obama said if he were elected he would begin talks with Iran.
He was elected; he began talks; he was handed his ass, even as he shipped a plane load of money to them.

"Getting along" is off the table.
There's a difference between getting along on our terms and getting along on their terms.
Coddling dictators is always a bad thing. We should have learned that by now. “Getting along with him” is for Iran and China. Go live there if you feel that way. You might end up liking it.
Well I checked for a "good thing" because I was thinking about the Trump time in office when Putin relaxed and stopped his aggression's towards his neighbors and the world. Of course Trump came from the business world where one would often keep their friends close but their enemies closer. Trump knew how to negotiate and please people. He did the same with Kim Jong Un. He offered him a dose of respect and he stopped lashing out and launching missiles.
Of course Putin has now gone way beyond anything that could be described as good but the thing is unless his own people take him out the world will have to deal with him once the shooting and bombings cease but what does that entail? Backing him into a corner and calling him a War Criminal will demand a hard response that might actually have him hitting the nuke button. What does he have to lose when he has nothing left and no options?
This is a deadly chess match and our leaders are not up to the task. Then again maybe the US should be taking a back seat and let the leaders of Europe deal with Putin?
Such a narcissistic, Amero-centric, morally superior way to think. Relations between nations are not good or bad. Good/bad is a moral judgment. Relations between nations are useful/profitable or they are not. Period.
It is preferable to American economic and strategic interests to trade with Russia, thus making a positive business relationship with Putin useful, profitable and relevant to American interests.
He is in the company of modern day monsters like Stalin and Hitler. One does not "get along" with men like that.
Do you consider Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon to be monsters for our involvement in Viet Nam? Do you consider Obama to be a monster for the drone bombing of a hospital in Afghanistan, do you consider Biden to be a monster for the bombing of a supposed terrorist during the withdrawal from Afghanistan?
Do you consider Bush and Trump to also be monsters because of our drone bombings?
I believe it is in our best interest to get along well enough to avoid or stop conflicts with all world leaders. Including Putin, Kim Jong Un, Xi and plenty of others.
Putin is probably a bad man I agree. I would not put him in the category of a Stalin or a Hilter but I don't really know.
