Details, details. These people just lie. I caught one of them claiming the federal budget was "ever-shrinking" the other day.

It's hard to tell if they lie out of malice or ignorance.

But my question as an Independent is this, if we vote in a Republican Congress in 2022 - and this year we should because the Democrats have gone completely bat s--- crazy, are the Republicans really going to do anything? And by doing anything, I mean not just tax cuts for the rich and reducing regulations on corporations.

And that is the problem with the Republicans, for far too long they have ignored the domestic problems in this country and they have let the Democrats have a field day.
I would vote for third party candidates, even if that party was called the Idiocracy party. Could not be worse than what we have.

It's not incompetence at this point. It's by design. They are trying to rearrange society to fit the far leftist agenda.

They want to return to the very old days where we didn't have a large middle class. That's too much of a threat to the elites and the power structure.

Ever single claim they make about the green movement and diversity equity, and inclusion, they are all just vehicles used to gain more power and to create division. Power is easier to keep with a divided and distracted populace.

I used to do that. I still do it on the New York state level.

Presidential elections

1992 Ross Perot (Independent)

1996 Ross Perot

2000 Ralph Nader (Greens)

Ross Perot came closest to winning with 19% of the vote in 1992 and that is with someone who was colorful but also a bit crazy and eccentric (sort of like Colonel Sanders without the beard). So it can be done but we need basically a modern day George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt to run as an Independent or Third party to get people to vote for him or her.

Mine is not an ideology built on hate, resentment and distrust though. That crap doesn't do you any good when you need to dig deep and work hard for your own personal slice of sanctuary in an increasingly chaotic world.
Sort of the same. The complex I've been living at for 2 years has a 'community garden' plot right near where my building is. I've never paid attention to it, but this year? I am definitely going to plant things. And, as I was told when I first signed the lease back in 2020, a lot of them share their crops with each other. As long as they aren't just growing things like kale and beets, I'll probably share, too.

In addition, I'm going to be buying some pots, soil, and seeds, and start growing some of my own veggies. I've spent the last 5 months reading and watching numerous YouTube videos, reading through the comments of each for more tips...and am ready to give it a try. If I'm successful, I can have a salad every single day without having to go to the store, and without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

I'm going to try to grow my own lettuce, carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, and corn...maybe? I really want to be able to grow fruit. I just found a video the other day showing how it is possible to grow strawberries without a garden...man...I really want to be able to grow strawberries.

In Maine, I grew my very first tomato plant, and it was so wildly successful, I was able to trade tomatoes with co-workers for eggs and other things. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did go out and sit next to it every day and talk to it. It was my first plant, I CARED!

I would really like to be able to put in an apple tree, an orange tree, and a lemon tree. Problem is, we live right next to a forested area with a lake. That area, literally feet away from my building, is owned by the city....so, not sure that we would be allowed to grow trees there, but can you imagine being able to have those trees? Maybe even try to do some raspberry bushes. What would I need a store for, other than for my obsession with milk, as well as to get my pet's food?

If I ever won or received a huge amount of money, I'd go out into the middle of nowhere, buy a giant chunk of land, get chickens for the eggs, have a giant garden, maybe a cow for the milk, butter, cream (I know doing it by hand is a chore), collect the damn rain water all I want, and tell the government to pound sand.

Not sure where you live but corn and potatos take a TON of space and corn is very easily marauded by wildlife. I'd try green beans and some of the others you mentioned as well as tomotoes including cherry tomatoes.

Second, if you want to get a head start, plant some of them in-doors now from seed and it will save you a lot of money. You can pot-grow a lot of things but may need to water daily.

Yes, that's all I've ever done in my entire life. /sarc

I've already said it many times on this forum about the enormous garden we had to take care of when we were kids. This was the first time that I did everything, from the very start to the picking. The only difference was I didn't buy the plants or seeds or rototill the soil when I was kid. But we had to create the rows, we had to plant them, we had to take care of them, we had to weed the damn garden, we had to pick or pull up the goods.

The tomato plant that I grew was my first time doing it all on my own, no parent telling me, after asking 'Can I go to the pool', that I needed to go tend to the garden, first.

I didn't need another plant, because that one bore so many tomatoes, I had to give them away.

Any other assuming questions?
