If you don't mind a bolt action version, it isn't really that bad. The problem, at least around where I live, is I'd have to drive hours to find a 1500 yard range.
That's the additional fun of having farms. You can shoot out your bedroom window if you like and your range is EVERYWHERE.
Let's face it though- how many people can actually make a 1500 meter shot? You not only need great optics, but a lot of practice. The .50 cal is not the best long range cartridge, but is a lot of fun for the "bang". The ammo is cheaper than the odd Cheytac calibers as well.
The big rush in the US started when obama got elected. biden's time just enforced it.
Yes because Obama was going to take away their guns, all 330 million of them. There's always an excuse for a gun surge and the NRA has done a good job creating paranoia, the pandemic, BLM protests, democratic president, statement by a congressman all lead to a surge.

Anyone with a shred of common sense realizes no one will be taking away our firearms. What they will do and have done is legislate away one thing after another. So far, the majority of it has come from the States, but to think it can't happen at the Federal level is just ignorant. Especially when we've had politicians , including our current POTUS state on record that they want to restrict certain types of firearms, for example, magazine fed semi auto rifles.
