When referring to transsexual? I've been known to use this word out of convenience instead of spelling out the whole word. But I'm pretty sure this is offensive to some people. I'm not sure I would refrain from using the word, except maybe in a professional setting if for some reason transsexuals were being discussed.
Thoughts?
Of course it's offensive. Legitimately offensive. Not like black/white, he/she, boy/girl etc, etc. EVERYTHING is offensive today.
My question is who would bother saying the word if not working on a transmission?
You really have to go out of your way to say Tranny in any other context besides a transmission which illustrates an INTENT to offend.
It's just not a word that is used to refer to people in any way other than to be offensive. I cannot think of any situation where calling someone a Tranny results in a positive interaction or is perceived as a compliment.
I may be old school but have no idea why it is necessary to tell someone you are transsexual, bisexual, homosexual, man, woman, it, who, what, she, he, etc.
I am sure you have no problem when you go to get insurance, the hospital or whatever and say you are with your wife. Now imagine I am asked who to put on my insurance and I say it's my husband and I am a man. Sometimes you don't need to declare it to everybody but at times you shouldn't have to hide it either.
Do you really expect me to go through life calling my husband my "friend"? These days with marriage being legally I am actually forced to disclose the nature of the relationship for some very basic things. I feel like people like you don't have the foggiest clue. Go a month and never mention your wife/girlfriend, kids, etc.
Don't forget to take the wedding pictures off your wall, choose your pronouns carefully around colleagues. We probably have that much in common. Do you like using awkward pronouns? When you are gay if you use pronouns the way they are originally defined just the context will out you as gay. It's my husband not my partner.
It's dehumanizing unless you're referring to a car.
How about freaks ?
