What? You mean budget like all of use peasants have to do? Unthinkable!
Seriously, it is ridiculous and I am tired of funding people who don’t want to work or work as hard. Hard work not only means doing a good job but doing what you have to do to make yourself more valuable to the market. If you don’t want to go to school, learn a trade, start your own business, then no one should be supporting you.
This. If you want my help, it's on you to show me that you're worth it by putting in the effort to help yourself.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/25/57pe...021-study.html I understand because of the pandemic the number rising. However these numbers are eye popping. Everyone says tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich however this is getting ridiculous at this point. Other than being an early teen delivering newspapers I paid taxes my entire life. This is bizarre to me!
I suspect the majority of those not paying taxes are low-income people, not high income ones.

Nope. It's right in the article. The biggest impact was the child tax credit. Payers became receivers.
The normal percentage of people not paying taxes each year is about 45% give or take. This year was a banner year due to government welfare.
From the OP's link:
The expanded child tax credit was a large factor. It substantially reduced "the income tax liability of more than a hundred million households and temporarily turned many from payers of small amounts of federal income tax to non-payers," Gleckman wrote.

I'm not a fan of the child tax credit. Never have been. Never been a fan of bailouts of any kind. If people can't afford kids, they shouldn't have them.

Ok but reality is the FedGov gave people free money that they were able to use to offset their taxes..hence no taxes owed.
They weren't just low income. They were payers...WERE.
It sure as hell wasn’t my household. We’re always screwed for not having kids and both working hard.
