Normal and rational people support this bill. Democrat politicians are in for a rude awakening if they think parents shouldn't have a say in their children's education...
From the article: "NBC News reporter Marc Caputo drew attention to a poll in a Twitter thread on Thursday from Floridians for Economic Advancement, which found that Florida Democrat primary voters support the bill 52 percent to 36 percent. The survey structured its question similarly to how the actual bill is written, asking respondents: “Should students in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade be taught about sexual orientation in the classroom by their teachers?”
It's funny, that when the media-driven FAKE spin isn't mentioned, that even Democrats support this bill. Calling it the "don't say gay" bill is a LIE.
I say kudos to DeSantis for calling the media out to their face for their deception over what the bill does. If folks are still against the bill after explaining what it actually does, fine. But no need to lie about things.

Parents have always had the authority to opt out of sex ed for their children. So why the grandstanding making it a bill about parental rights, when parents already have that right. Kids are curious though about why some have 2 dads or 2 moms. They have questions which someone needs to address. If you don't want kids educated in schools about this then take on the responsibility to teach them yourself

Lately parents have been feeling that they don’t have authority concerning their kid’s education. Look at Virginia, a blue state which elected a Republican governor. The democrat lost, and one of his stupid comments during a debate was “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach."
Couple that with parents being arrested at school board meetings and I think a reasonable person can see why parents feel a need to have their rights codified.

This is a typical conservative republican reaction.. Their biblical brainwashing causes them to avoid human sexuality.
Liberals here need to keep up with the times instead of posting as if society is the same as it was 15-20 yrs ago. "Democrats and Republicans now make up similar shares of Florida’s registered voters (37% and 36%, respectively), compared with 26% who have no party affiliation." and this is from 2020.
Even then - bible thumping Republicans probably make up no more than 30% of the party in Florida if that. People moving to Florida come from all political spectrums. Church does not hold the role in anyone's life that it once did decades ago so your statement is false.
I was schooled in the 70's and had a class on sex ed as did my sons in the late 90s. Republican pressure from the evangelicals was disregarded as they are a small minority in our society.
To a previous poster who said that parents have the right to opt out. Get with the times. Though parents still have the option to opt out - teachers are doing this in the lower grades - K-3rd and not within the school curriculum but taking it on themselves and therein lies the problem and why this bill is necessary.
Parents have always had the authority to opt out of sex ed for their children.
That's a really bold statement to have made. Each state has different laws and each district has different policies. There are over 13,000 different administrations you're speaking for here and frankly, I don't think you know as much as you think. I'm totally open to being wrong, though, so by all means, show me up and prove your point with some supporting information.

Why on earth do you think that responsibility falls to ANYONE other than the parents?

What happened to "Parents have always had the authority to opt out of sex ed for their children"? Now it's "If you don't want kids educated in schools about this then take on the responsibility yourself"?
Damn, that's a complete 180 in the same post.
THAT'S the attitude which has everyone ticked off, by the way. You can take that smugness and forcefully place it in your poop chute.
Many people are, by the way. Over 15% of kids are being homeschooled now, and that's a wonderful thing.

That's a remarkably shallow take on one of the most broad and important topics to anyone with kids.
I'm agnostic. How do you explain my position?
