Without the American Rescue Plan, the recovery almost certainly would not have been so rapid, and we would also not be seeing so many job openings.

During the 2015-6 election campaign, Trump often referred to the so called Obama employment numbers as fake.

Trump took credit for his numbers and ignored the methodologies had not changed. He also ignored that Amazon was the #1 job creator during his term while flying into Wisconsin to gush about Foxconn’s intent to build and create 13,000 jobs. Reality is, 5 years later, only 579 jobs have been created.

So here we we are again, with some calling Biden’s numbers fake, despite no change in methodologies. And once again, Amazon is the single greatest job creator, up 18% from a year ago.

As I've said before ... after every recession there is a time period where it takes a while for the jobs lost in the recession to recover to their pre-recession levels. And yet presidents always tout how great their jobs numbers are during that time (at least, when that recovery is rapid, such as during Reagan). The difference this time, as pointed out in my links in my post just above, is that the recovery is much more rapid this time around than in previous times.

I'm trying to recall the last time we had a pandemic-induced recession, which is "the difference this time".

I suggest you re-read what I said. A bloated economy isn't everything. Oh, the ole Ponzi scheme. Keep adding more and more workers to the workforce to cover a prior generations SS and Medicare while we keep doing that same thing over and over by continually increasing our workforce for another retired workforce.

Immigration shouldn't be based on making babies. Give Americans incentives to pro-create instead. We are importing millions of illegals with no education, no skills and their offspring will do no better because poverty begets poverty. Most of them don't even have a tax liability because of their numerous dependents and low wages. Those aren't immigrants we should welcome.

The best and the brightest are ok in limited numbers just as long as they don't replace Americans on their jobs. No way should we import any immigrants just to make babies!

Especially by the Democratic governors finely allowing businesses to open back up in states where they were shut down.

Probably 1919-1920 after the 1918 flu. I imagine Sheila Jackson Lee could comment on it since she says she's a "freed slave" which would make her about 200 years old.

The news from the BLS today on job openings in their JOLTS release. Note this is not the better-known, monthly BLS jobs release, which comes out Friday. Also, this particular release is reported with a month's lag compared to the monthly jobs report. That is, this is for Feb whereas Friday's report will be for March. Just FYI.

There are now a record 5 million more job openings than unemployed people in the U.S.

Here is the chart on job openings from FRED. As soon as Biden took office, job openings soared.
Yep. Some fast food places are closing down, sending workers home that want to work home, with no pay. Small stores reducing hours, and closing for lack of help. More workers go home.
Ok, Mr. Biden guy. Tell us how this is good for our economy(places shutting down, and can't stay open). I will bet you can't.

Thank you for pointing out how silly and meaningless government statistics are.

There is no measure of Employment, Unemployment, Labor Force Participation or Wages where we are better off today than we were in the last month before the pandemic crashed employment (Feb 2020). Please note it was employment that crashed, not the economy.

From the article quoted from CNBC, here is the salient point, "However, with the total level of those counted as unemployed contracting further to 6.27 million". It is who is considered unemployed and who isn't that allows the numbers to be misinterpreted as good or bad news.

What the numbers really mean is that a certain number of people are neither employed, nor counted as unemployed. They simply move into an alternative category, such as the U-6 measurement.

In Feb 2020 there were 152,504,000 employed people in the U.S. and unemployment was 3.5%. In April there were only 130,513,000 employed people in the U.S. and unemployment was 14.7%. But from that bottom, things improved quickly and monthly. In Trump's last 9 months in office the U.S. added 13 million jobs. In the 13 months since Biden took office we have added less than 7 million jobs. Part of that slow growth is due to Biden policies, part of it is structural as the country slowly fully reopens.

The bottom line is, the Biden Administration really has nothing to boast about. Until the U.S. gets back to where it was in Feb 2020 it is difficult to judge Biden's performance. Once we are back even, then we can judge how well his policies are growing the economy.
