What do you think? Time to get the government out of anactivity between two consenting adults? I get that underage girls or those forced into sex work is wrong. And legalizing it would not change that. This is a change to Rhode Island's laws not the entire USA. Should a state have the right to decide an issue like this?
Under Mendes and Calkin's bill, Rhode Island's laws criminalizing prostitution, procurement of sexual conduct for a fee, loitering for prostitution, soliciting from motor vehicles for indecent purposes, pandering or permitting prostitution, and refusing to comply with examination and treatment for venereal disease protocols would be repealed.
The measure would also expunge the records of people previously convicted of violating these laws, with the exception of permitting prostitution or pandering.
That is just the excuse thy use to justify these laws being in place, pretty weird how no one was concerned with human trafficking until fairly recently, huh? LOL
Prostitution laws are in place for one reason...its considered 'immoral/sinful'...(but lawmakers cannot really say that today), so they just find an explanation that many people will fall for and believe.
There are some laws like this, that have somehow survived, when they should have gone years ago, its bonkers imo. I say allow women/men to do what they want with their own bodies, if they are comfortable selling it for profit, so be it, they are not harming me in anyway, they are putting no one in danger with their actions.
I sometimes wonder if cops drive around with bibles and crucifixes in their cars! If you watch real Prostitution stings or arrests, its very clear, that the cops believe they are doing GOOD by slapping the cuffs on Prostitutes, same thing when they arrest people for drugs too, (its like they take it personally).

But as it is stated in other posts, prostitution is technically already legal. All you have to do is film the "interaction" and put it on your onlyfans.
I support legal prostitution. Would help out a lot of thirsty males who will never have the personality to attract a mate. They are growing in numbers. Pimps, traffickers, and people who use fear to control women and make them slaves should be executed.
Are you a Police Officer or ever served in a Law Enforcement capacity? The idea that prostitution is a victimless crime is merely an idea.
No, its merely the modern way to justify continuing to enforce such laws, its an old tactic.
The exact same thing was/is done with drug laws...we are told these laws are enforced to protect public health and safety...but in reality, that is not accurate, and never has been, (proof of this is crystal clear to see). You have to go back to the days when these laws were first created, to get the REAL reason, (in the case of drug laws), the govt at the time was very clear about why the laws were necessary, (Racism...concerns over Chinese immigrants and then later, black people).
Laws against Prostitution are the same thing, dont buy the 'concern about human trafficking' excuse...(before the mid 2000s, 'human trafficking' was not even a household term).
Willing buyer, willing seller. As long as it is two consenting adults, get out of our bedrooms! As many people hook up after meeting at a bar, the only thing the government seems to care about is that some people exchange money for sex. Makes no sense to charge people for getting it on. (Again, as long as all parties are consenting aldults)
