Still needs to pass Senate but nearly all Republicans voted against it. Will the same GOP members that voted against it later take credit for any marijuana tax revenue brought to their state?
No idea why any real Republicans would be against it. The war on drugs was an epic failure, and in a capitalist society something as benign and beneficial as marijuana should be legal
I think it’s pretty ridiculous that people need marijuana in order to get through their day. However, as long as there isn’t an increase in DUIs or other types of crime, I’m all for collecting that tax revenue from the weak minded drug users.
Setting up their buddies at Pfizer. Soon they are going to say that weed can only be grown in $10mm facilities that are purified by equipment only Merck and Pfizer can afford and suddenly your 1/2 oz. of grass is going to run you $800.00. I’ll stick with the black market.
Public opinion is against them on this one including many republicans of their base. So many republican friends and relatives of mine light up. It's a healthier alternative to alcohol in my opinion.
I mean, if you really compared alcohol vs THC using factors such as lost time at work, family/spousal abuse, bar fights, traffic accidents, affects on the human body systems, etc... there's no comparison which drug is safer. I've mentioned before it's ALL drunks that call in, and almost zero pot smokers. Who would a cop pulling someone over rather deal with? I think the answer is obvious, not that you should use either while driving, and I support handing out DUIs for high drivers.
It's "high" time the will of the majority be respect in this manner and THC be removed from the drug schedule. As far as big corporations controlling the market, well that's the end stage outcome of virtually every large market. People will source it from wherever it's cheapest so it's in the best interest of those making the laws to make the legal product competitively priced, especially these days where we have so much liquidity from QE and private equity firms that will buy up anything they think they can turn a profit on.

Why would you think people are high all day ? Are people drunk all day ?
There are people who indulge after work or on the weekends...just like drinking.
Sorry to see most of the GOP voting against this. A more populist party would be more open to it I believe. The old guard is still too dominant it seems. This is more of a generational issue than it is a partisan issue I think. That said this will probably die in the senate.

Impressive how you've gone your whole life without drinking a drop of alcohol.
