Can people say Twana Brawley? The ultimate rush to judgement.
"It was 1987 when a black teenager, Tawana Brawley, said she had been raped and kidnapped by a group of white men in Dutchess County, N.Y. Her story of being attacked, scrawled with racial slurs, smeared with feces and left beside a road wrapped in a plastic bag made front pages across the nation — especially after the Rev. Al Sharpton took up her case.
But, as The Associated Press reminds readers, "a special state grand jury later determined that Brawley had fabricated her claims, perhaps to avoid punishment for staying out late."
In 1998, Steven Pagones, who was the county prosecutor at the time, won a defamation suit against Sharpton, Brawley and Brawley's attorneys. They had accused Pagones of being among Brawley's attackers.
Over the years, critics, politicians and news media have demanded that Sharpton apologize for his role and publicly condemn Brawley. But Sharpton has refused, perpetuating the ill will that many still hold for him.
"What do I have to apologize for? I believed her," Sharpton says. [...] But he doesn't regret having stood for Brawley, he says."

That's the way mob mentality works. And that is why, until recently, it was considered very bad and destructive behavior by anyone with an even minimally functional brain.
Hold up now, most of you probably are unaware that the Tawana Brawley incident is so far from the worst of Sharpton that it's like holding a candle up to the sun.
He riled up fake anger against a jewish business that lead to a mass killing.
The link to what happened isn't the best so a little more background:
The building OWNER was a black church that wanted the black record store OUT.
Freddy's fashion mart (jewish business) was the lease holder and so they were blamed for the eviction by Sharpton calling them "white interlopers" when they were being forced to evict the sublessee by the property owner.
Darned right it was. I'd even consider some lawsuit.
Yet another false claim of racism that could have destroyed a business (never mind the hatred the restaurant probably got when this incident first came to light). The concept of waiting for all evidence to be presented before casting judgement doesn't apply to some people it seems.
This started with what else, a post to social media about racism. The Lee County branch of NAACP was asked to get involved. Very stupid of NAACP to comment, let alone Demond the revocation of the restaurant’s license without investigating.
According to this, interior cameras saved the day. There may or may not have been an issue with a now former employee.

Sadly, I remember it well. So many needless deaths resulted.
1. No doubt to try to avoid getting sued. (You see the Oberlin thread?)
2. Maybe they should consider investigating first? You know, get the facts? Then you don't have to apologize after trying to destroy someones life, business etc. (That's universal, applies to any organization, govt, private individual etc.)
I actually hope that their "apology" makes it easier to sue because they are basically giving an admission that they were wrong.
But I suspect that the owner is still probably a bit skittish about pursuing it because of course the left will be sure to twist it right back to the racism charges. He may win the battle but lose the war.
And helped him become a national power player in the Democrat party.
