Issues include hours to place an IV by inexperienced personnel.

Now ... I believe in the death penalty under certain circumstances but due the seriousness of the whole process ... is heard for me to fathom the lack of professionalism that appears to be involved in these proceedings.

At least a decent doctor could insert a patent central line without relying on some inexperienced med tech to make several attempts on someone with poor vascular access.

Sometimes I feel like tried and true methods like firing squads should be the norm.

I agree about tried and true methods but my GAF about people who killed other people having botched executions is pretty darn low. Imagine how the people they killed felt.

The Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC) said seven of 20 execution attempts were visibly problematic or took an inordinate amount of time.
Hold up a sec. this is according to a group opposing the death penalty applying their own "visual criteria" to declare things "problematic".

As such, I'd be extremely cautious in believing the information put forth in the article.

Well .. I certainly believe in considering the source and perhaps opinions are biased. But seemingly hard numbers like taking 3 hours to start an IV are hardly biased.

It's hard to botch a bullet to the head. That's how the Chinese do it. Quick, effective, painless and cheap.

"using a medical model of executions, lethal injection, but not using medical people to carry it out"

Yeah that is indeed the problem. As someone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath/Nightingale Pledge or just believes in medical ethics could not involve themselves.

But biggest problem with the death penalty is that innocent people end up on death row.

That is fair. And why it should only be done on individuals that are 100% proven guilty. Then it should be done within 24 hours of the sentencing.

They stabbed my gf with a needle trying to get a vein for some IV so many times she was literally in tears before they finally gave up. This was at a hospital with "medical professionals". So.... not losing any sleep over some murders getting poked more than needed.

Why did they stop public hangings? It was a great way to bring the community together. Spectators would often pelt the condemned with rotten fruit, eggs, etc. Americans love spectator sports where they can get involved in the act. It would be like a Gallagher show, but in reverse.

It was good enough for Saddam. It's impossible to botch that. Thoughts???
