Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin said Saturday that the country will make a decision on applying for NATO membership by the end of spring, because "Russia is not the neighbor we thought it was."

Finland's relations with Russia have changed in an "irreversible" way, said Marin, reversing course on earlier remarks that it would be "very unlikely" that Finland would apply for membership with the military alliance during her current term of office.

I assume because until the past month or so, this type of wishful thinking was still setting policy...

If they join, just make sure they pay their dues on time.

Gee, I wonder why! Russia only invaded and tried to wipe them off the map...

And then after the Soviets were put down like the dogs they are, they returned to punish the leadership after the conclusion of WW2, for having the gall to defend themselves. Unfortunately, defending themselves against Soviet invasion placed Finland on the side of the Nazis as far as the Soviets were concerned, and they used this as an excuse to exact their revenge on Finland. And here we are today, Russia still using the excuse of Nazis to invade foreign lands that they are not worthy of owning.

Russia's glory days are long gone. I think they are actually hoping for WW3, since their modern day reality and life is so bleak and their best days are not even a lingering memory anymore.

Hardly. China, Russia, India, Iran, North Korea, some former USSR nations, and I'm sure I'm missing many more... These countries will make up a new economic bloc in the new multi polar new world order. China will purchase oil in Yuan at a discount, while we and the rest of the western world will pay top dollar... On top of that, we will also pay a surcharge for commodities like oil due to the newly added inefficiencies and never ending sanctions that only seem to punish the western nations that agree to them. We are going to be asked (told) to struggle in the name of punishing Russia... Yet the ruble has already recovered all it's losses, and we are still being asked (told) to dig a little deeper and sacrifice a little more.

The eastern bloc looks much more efficient and has their crap together. They are also ruthless, but they could turn on each other just as easily.

Absolutely. I don't know what the requirements are to join NATO, but each country that joins should bring something significantly beneficial to the alliance and not just another country that the stronger nations are going to have to defend and possibly get into a nuclear war over.

We need to seriously consider if it's really worth getting into an all out nuclear war just because Russia or some other aggressor nation starts some monkey business with some little NATO country that 95% of Americans couldn't locate on a world map if their life depended upon it.

Further, not only could 95% of Americans not locate some of these countries on a map, a large majority of Americans probably don't truly care much about some of these other countries that they know absolutely nothing about and certainly don't want to risk nuclear war to defend someone they don't even know and care less about.

Interesting. I assume this would come packaged with some oxymoronically preemptive defensive missiles pointed 260-450 miles towards St Petersburg and some 'medical research' biolabs that happen to include studies like transmittable infections in migratory birds travelling eastward. All part and parcel of the affiliation, isn't it?

Finland has a right to be concerned about its own security but they don't seem to have as much interest in the tumultuous circumstances that resulted in the current conflict; not just with Russia in general but the Russian speaking peoples in Ukraine as well.

Agreed. I feel we are seeing the end of the West and the rise of the East. While the US, Canada and Western Europe were worried about fashion, diversity and other BS, China, Russia and India been sticking with nationalism which is strengthening their countries. They are playing the long game. And the super rich are counting on it. It's why they moved so many of their businesses out of Western countries.
