PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Republicans are registering formerly Democratic voters at four times the rate that Democrats are making the reverse conversion in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, a warning sign for Democrats as they try to keep control of the U.S. Congress.

The Republican gains in Pennsylvania, home to a critical U.S. Senate race, follow a pattern seen in other states that could have competitive contests in November's elections, as high levels of disapproval with President Joe Biden's handling of his job are helping narrow the long-held advantage held by Democrats in numbers of registered voters.

"I just got fed up and just felt like there has to be a better way," said Beth Jones, 48, a retired Philadelphia police officer who last month registered as a Republican, ending her three-decade affiliation with the Democratic Party.

It is shocking that anyone involved in Law Enforcement would still be voting Democrat.

Welcome to the party Beth Jones, better late than never.

Penn. is a battleground state and the Reps are really going to have to turn out in force to offset the cheating and fraud the Dems are capable of.

I have no idea where it will end. College elites headed Dem. Working class headed GOP. Hispanic drifting GOP. Young drifiting Dem...

A similar thing happened in 2020 and Trump lost the state. Registration has often lagged actual voting habits. The bigger question is, are these voters who were actually voting Democratic, or were they voters who have been voting Republican, but did not previously change their actual registration.

Well, the 2020 election was riddled with fraud that was covered up by COVID-19.

It won't be nearly as easy for the Democrats to cheat in 2022.

Any votes for the candidate you don’t like are fraudulent.

How much did the redistricting have in creating this voter registration change? This usually does influence party change overs. Ours was implemented this year. When the controlled party currently is republican...the favor it leans towards is slicing the demographics in their sector to most influence or retain power in that community.

As a registered voter of this state, my choice in who I cast a vote for is less about the party they are backing. Voted for various candidates that were outside my registered affiliation. Our gubernatorial race is a mess . Our laws are severely antiquated overall.
