Again, they have no choice.

You can get people to do a lot of uncomfortable things through mandates, see every dictatorship that ever existed.

The people issuing these mask mandates can reasonably claim ignorance.

I know exactly what they'd do because the university mandate was lifted earlier this semester. My eldest's employer does not require masks. Each continues to wear an N95 in public settings because they love me and want to protect me.

Even here in Colorado, where cases are low, medical facilities still require that everyone masks.

edited for typos
In theory, Hopkins' medical school has continued requiring masks in the hospital setting, and among those who would be in a hospital.

DC (and MD for Hopkins) has not seen any significant increase (per NYT Covid tracker) in hospitalizations or cases, especially to where you'd worry about 18-30 year olds.

I'm speaking for college kids in general, I cannot speak for your kids obviously as I don't know them, you, or your situation.

What I can say is this - if I were old, frail, and a stiff wind could kill me, I'd still not make (or guilt) my kids into wearing masks.

When my partner got COVID back in January, I took care of her, slept in the same bed, brought her food etc. I never said I was going to self isolate to try and avoid becoming sick because that is what love is. In the end, I didn't even get sick!

I'm not guilting my children into wearing masks. They do it of their own volition because they want to protect me, knowing that I'm vulnerable. They consider it a small inconvenience that means they can see me without worrying about passing along an infection that would likely be minor for them but quite serious for me. I have a close relationship with my adult children, and we like to spend time together. Masking ensures we can continue to do so.

Millions of Americans have caught COVID even after following mask protocols and being double-vaxxed and boosted. Hopefully you don't learn the hard way that masks don't work, like they did.

Are they wearing a high-quality mask correctly 100% of the time? I see a lot of people pulling down their masks to talk to other people, sitting in coffee shops with a mask under the chin, running into the grocery without a mask because "they'll only be a minute." I see unvaccinated children going to school maskless, and if they do have one, not wearing it correctly. I see lots of cloth masks STILL, even though we know that they aren't as effective as they need to be. We also know that vaccine effectiveness wanes over time. And you wonder why there are outbreaks?

I wear an N95 when I MUST be in public and work at home, as does my spouse, and my children test for Covid before they spend time with me, but your concern for my well-being is touching.
