The illegals chose to break our laws. I have no sympathy for them, because of this. If they do not have enough food, then they should have thought about that before they made the trek up and broke our laws. Their food situation is none of our concern. The food supply of American children is our concern and of the most importance.
I hope I never reach that point, Ford, respectfully. Our ancestors didn't have to break any laws, they just chose to come over here, and put down roots. (I'm guessing, maybe wrongly, that you and I are of the same basic heritage of european immigrants who came over with no one screening them at all when they arrived on American soil. They just pulled up to the shore, dropped anchor, and came on in).

"Harden not your heart". I don't ever want to have no sympathy for a starving baby and a mother crying to feed her baby.

Regardless of border issues lines.

Yes, it is. Especially when we depend on foreigners to produce our necessities.

They are more than free to request to be deported. It's called voluntary departure and it's a thing.

Hell, people who depart voluntarily aren't even banned from coming back.

Perhaps, but it's hard to tell-our "system" is equal parts statism and Capitalism these days. Not sure more pure-statist systems are doing any better. Well, those that have survived.

Exactly. Government is 46% of GDP. In a capitalist system, the size of government would be far, far, FAR smaller.

Are you suggesting that a mother with a starving baby should go through the process of requesting to be deported, and then somehow find a way to feed her baby?

We're all humans, albert. That's the thing. Innocent babies that the right wants to make SURE stay in the wombs of unwilling women, yet somehow, when they're newborns of loving moms and trying to get fed at our border don't have a right to life?

We're all humans. We can make this work.

After reading about that, I read those pallets at the border contained powdered milk.

Anyway, generations of babies were fed a formula made from condensed milk and karo syrup. It may not have all the vitamins but it will do in a pinch. Anyone who needs it can google the recipe. Just don't buy Eagle brand condensed milk, it's thick and gross

How about this - set clear expectations. If you cross the border without going through proper immigration channels, we cannot take care of you. Make it clear from the get-go. When they are arrested, they are informed that there is no baby formula and we cannot provide them any. If they wish to hop across the border, they are placed on the first flight/bus/train out of the country. If they wish to remain in ICE custody, they are put in detention with the clear expectation that they are on their own to feed their baby.

People who are already here LEGALLY should have priority. Always. No exceptions. We can't take care of everyone.

Remain in Mexico worked just fine until Biden nuked it.

The FDA discovered a contamination in a plant that caused the deaths of several babies-thus a recall, But more importantly the pandemic messed us up. As parents hoarded it early on and during the pandemic demand spiked....then dropped way down. But guess what we do when stuck at home and bored? Sooooo......Now deman has spiked, just as a recall hits.

Also over regulation by the FDA, and very narrow specifications by WIC....which is more of a "American companies kept passing laws to keep foreign competitors out." AKA America First! Congrats, they had success. 3 companies effectively provide all our formula. Abbott, Mead Johnson, and Gerber. And there is no ability to get any from anywhere else. Congratulations America first folks! Maybe yall should focus on capitalism more.

NONE of this is caused by the Biden administration, and it only just now appeared as a problem. But the GOP has latched onto it desperately to distract from things like the January 6th commision and the information that sure looks like a coup attempt showing up, and the Supreme Court that they created taking what most women view as a right....away.

And the screaming about border Caravans wasnt working, and only those most desperate for Russian money seem to be willing to argue about Ukraine.

So here we go. Now...what EXACTLY do people think can be done? I will lay out what I see as possibilities.

Biden could....ask congress to change the laws to allow importation of foreign formula that still meets reasonable standards. (DO NOT BUY FROM CHINA). Seriously. They've had issues with stuff they've fed to their own children.

Biden could....expand domestic capacity. (Which none of you seem to be aware they are in fact doing). So that ones. in progress

But outside of asking congress to do something...theres not much he CAN do. Maybe a emergency declaration? Thats something you need to involve lawyers and specialists in.
Bolded is untrue. It's been known about and reported for months and the problem has been accelerating.
