Why 65? Why not 62, or 75, or 80, or 55?

Age is not a sole indicator of competence.

Probably work better if they address the increases in wealth over the course of their govt career...Everyone knows public service is not a career that leads to lavish wealth...(so maybe when this does happen to an elected official, they are removed from govt?)

The problem is though, they are not generally honest about how they attained their wealth, nearly all will say its thru 'Legitimate means', thats how corruption works unfortunately, the corrupt never acknowledge that they are corrupt.

no but lifelong politicians like mcconnell and pelosi should have term limits as they have allowed themselves to become bought and paid for , wealthy, and unbeatable in the primaries under the current model

I live in KY, I see and speak to many people thru my job on a daily basis, very rarely does anyone have kind words about Mitch McConnell...

But the fact that he just keeps on winning year after year is really a big red flag!

In most cases, the simplest explanation is usually accurate...look at the facts...

Mitch McConnell is not well liked in his state...He wins his seat on every election...he has become filthy rich from his public service...Hmmm, what do these facts suggest? (Odds are that the 'people' are not electing Mitch year after year...those who have contributed to his wealth, ensure he remains in power).

Cmon people, this is how it works in Russia for petes sake, is it really that difficult to see in the US govt? HA HA

Just give term limits instead. Two terms and you're out. Also, ban congress from trading stocks and toss lobbyists out of Washington DC.

That's the dream. Likely to remain a dream.

There is not "manadatory retirement" in other areas.

However, TERM LIMITS should be the defacto "retirement".

You could make it 75 and still make a huge improvement, with some even in their 80s.

Exactly.

I agree with this. The term limit for any elected office should be 4 years, max.

I'd raise it to about 78 or so. People are living longer and 65 ain't as old as it used to be. You've got doddering old fools like Biden bipping about. He should be at home sitting in the rocking chair, not running the free world. He's got moments where he appears to be ok, but the moments where he looks like he's not driving the car are starting to outnumber the good moments.
