If there's an exception, I have a sneaking suspicion the judge'll use it, as much as Jones hacked her off.
From my reading of the Texas statute, the plaintiff's cause of action (intention infliction of emotional distress) is not cited as an exception. I got interested in this issue after reading the tweet of another Texas attorney whom brought up the cap (although he said that the award was close to the cap). Essentially, the cap does not apply to felonies. I shall link to the Texas statute for those interested to see if they can find an exception:

The world doesn't need his voice and there were other far more reputable news sources out there reporting on Epstein early on.

Jone's attorney told the judge that "the verdict does not conform to chapter 41 of the civil practice and remedies code of Texas and that we will be filing an objection.."
The judge could not say if the judgement does or does not follow Texas law so she simply said in reply: I'm sure the judgement will properly reflect the laws of Texas..."
