I wouldn't bring enlisted Military into this, imho.

Military isn't going to put you into crushing debt for years. It could give guidance and discipline to young people who are lost or expose them to other parts of the Country and World, get them out of their hometown rut. Give them some perspective.

For me, anyway, it was just that and an overall positive experience that I wouldn't trade.
And they also helped finance my higher education both in and out of it.

More stupid government policy.

I'm for forgiving loans if they get to the root of the issue which is tuition being so expensive that it's not affordable, mainly due to government backed loans and society perpetuating the myth that everyone needs a college degree.

Forgiving loans outright just encourages colleges to continue to overcharge for tuition.
"I'm from the government and I'm here to help".....

We paid for FOUR children to attend college. One of them went on to receive her Masters and PhD.

It infuriates me to no goddamn end to think of this generation of whiny little pukes walking away from school with 100k useless liberal arts degrees *and* zero debt thanks to the FORCED benevolence of the American people.

The revolution draws near, y’all.

For a lot of them it is. A lot of them have to take the remedial classes to start college.

Same here. I chose to go to lesser schools, live at home, work, all so I wouldn't have debt and now these little brats are irresponsible and get taken care of.

We invested in Texas Tomorrow tuition accounts for them when they were born, which guaranteed tuition in any state school. It was a large investment made many years before they even graduated from high school. They handled their extra expenses through part time jobs and a little help from us.

One is an ER RN, one is a legislative director, one is a school teacher, and one is a pastry chef. We are proud of them all.

I cannot imagine placing the responsibility of my children’s higher education on the backs of others.

This drives me into absolute fury.

Me too. I chose to go to the cheapest state college I could find. A B.S. from one school is the same credential as any other. I graduated with zero debt. It doesn't matter what school you attended as long as you can apply what you learned to get that first job. After that, no one cares where you went to college.

I highly recommend steering your children into a community college. This was how I did it. Let them earn an Associate degree while growing up and maturing a bit. Plus, community colleges lack many of the distractions that hurt young college students.

Once they graduate with a two year degree it’s substantially easier to transfer to a four year school to finish your studies. Not only do you save a ton of money, but your kid will mature and grow and better adjust to university.

Won’t work for every field, but it will for most. The savings are substantial.
