I've dropped several corporations due to a combination of cost and wokeism, mostly wokeism.

Default Woke Mind Virus" responsible for Netflix's historic loss?

QUOTE FROM ABOVE, my italics::

Netflix’s video streaming service saw a historic drop in subscribers Tuesday, and Elon Musk said it was due to the "woke mind virus" in the media.

Netflix’s video streaming service lost 200,000 subscribers between January and March, according to a quarterly report released Tuesday. The reported losses led to its stock dropping 25% in aftermarket trading, setting the stage for a loss of $42 billion in value Wednesday.
END QUOTE

I had no idea what "woke mind virus" meant, so I looked it up. Basically, according to this https://www.thefocus.news/culture/wo...virus-meaning/
QUOTE, my italics:

"Finally, Vox’s “history of ‘wokeness’” quotes doctoral linguistics researcher deandre miles-hercules as saying the term “has been plundered into conservative and right-wing discourse as a means of mocking and satirising the politics of those on the other side of the proverbial aisle”.

"Is Netflix’s output becoming more ‘woke’, as Musk claims? Elon Musk’s tweet suggests that he believes “wokeness” is ruining Netflix output. Specifically, he says the “woke mind virus” is making Netflix “unwatchable” – but does he have a point?"
END QUOTE

And that is my question -- Are a great many people getting fed up with all the 'wokeness'? Or just a small minority?
Nah, I would say it has more to do with the recent price increase. Couple that with increasing competition from other streaming services and you have some people canceling.

Netflix is not particularly woke. HBO and especially Disney are worse IMO.

I've added 4 streaming services this year. Netflix isn't as central to my TV viewing as it was a few years ago. It's also the most expensive, so it's in the danger zone over here.

We dumped Netflix, HBO, and Showtime recently purely due to their crappy content. I turned on HBO one too many times to find a crappy movie from the 80’s playing for the third time in a day.

I get that covid was a big driver in the delay of much of our entertainment, but what IS coming out is crap. It’s not interesting. And I’m really, really tired of animated comics masquerading as entertainment.

I’m reading more once again. Better for me anyway.

Has nothing to do with "woke" programming. It's the end of the pandemic, financial strain, and more choices in streaming. Netflix is no longer the only game in town.

if your links are similar to the last linked list of Musk's "subsidies", it was mostly government contracts (SpaceX) and the consumer tax break to buy an EV. Throw in some local tax breaks. But not the US Government.

But it's instructive to try and understand the mind of a liberal.
The site is instructive. Tesla Inc. is the ‘parent’ company.

Same. I'm thinking I might cancel once I'm done with the next season of "Stranger Things".

Agreed. Word today is Netflix will soon be coming out with a cheaper ad-supported plan.

Come on. You don't have much grasp of macro statistics.
And I would say about 10% of the characters on TV are depicted as openly gay, so I don't see the disconnect. Some shows might have more, and some might not have any. And that IS real life - you might not have any gay friends, the next guy might have several.

<5% of Americans are redheads. But if you see someone with red hair on a TV show do you get all agitated about that not being "mainstream"?
