Where are the parents? This is the whole problem. When one of my sons was like 4, he grabbed a pack of gum near the register when we were checking out. He produced it from his pocket a little while later. We forced him to go back in the store and tell the man that checked us out. He cried and learned a lesson.
And the parents of this child may have done the same thing if it was them that caught him and not the officers.
Imagine if you were with your kid, you didn't see the gum snatch but an officer did so he took it upon himself to 'handcuff' your child to teach him about stealing.
Not necessary.
The kid was crying. Officers could have just taken a moment, regrouped, and handled it differently.
This whole incident just about sums up what is so very wrong with our society.
No one wants to question why an 8-year old boy is out stealing stuff, and why his daddy is only concerned about the cops detaining him. I don't care if it's a bag of peanuts, theft is theft, and at that young age very concerning. The kid was putting on a show with the crying, and it's not like the cops were rough housing him. They took him to his father's place.
I'm sure many can relate to stories back in the day when kids were caught committing crimes, and when the parents were notified, the kids got a whupping or other form of punishment.
Not these days, 'parents' will excuse and cover for their kids misdeeds, ensuring that they'll grow up towards a life of crime.
When I worked at Walmart years ago, some youths stole bats from sporting goods and busted up cars and bushes in the employee parking area. Cops were called and they were arrested. The parents showed up at Walmart angry because Walmart called the police on their children.
And the parents of this child may have done the same thing if it was them that caught him and not the officers.

So if you cry, you can get out of a crime?
If it's only a bag of chips, you get to take property from the store owner?
If you've ever watched videos of cops trying to detain uncooperative suspects especially black ones I've noticed, its amazing the web of lies that will come out of their mouths. They will feign innocence and then play the oppression card when arrested despite the fact video evidence clearly shows them at fault. I always wondered if this was genetic, cultural conditioning, or a little of both. Any person of any skin color is capable of this its just more evident in certain groups.
Humans can be easily manipulated by well rehearsed emotional responses by people especially men when it comes to women and children that do it. Why do you think psychopathic individuals often become so popular?
Let me guess.... The child is black. The parent is black..... Got to give credit where it's due though. At least there's a father in the vicinity.
A Caucasian parent would be like, "Thank you officers for showing my child what happens when you steal. Let it be a life lesson for him which may keep him out of trouble down the road".
Leave it to the pathetic wokesters to get their panties in a bunch. Of course, the parents will ride it all the way to a complaint against the department. Another Michael Brown in the making.
And the city will give them lots of money for it. I say force them to take it all the way to a jury and they will get nothing. Then this grift will stop.
This is nothing new with our society. Kids do stupid things like this for various reasons....hungry, dared by peers....who knows. The problem with this article is it doesn't state why police got involved. Who called them for a bag of chips. And an 8 year old still cries so stop saying he was putting on a show. In fact we all cry depending on the circumstances.
They didn't call them for a bag of chips, they called them for shoplifting. I live in a borderline area of Boston and the kids occasionally swarm corner convenience stores and empty the shelves.
