There’s no question that the whole college / student loan racket has gotten completely out of control. The victims are the students who receive (often) worthless educations and end up saddled with a lifetime of debt servitude.

It’s got to stop, and this should be a bipartisan effort. But of course it won’t happen, because there are too many people who benefit from the status quo.

colleges have become club med. when i was in college, dorms were bare bones and only slightly more comfortable than prison cells...but we were happily living in them. now, colleges are like resorts with hotel amenities.

also, there are more college administrators than teachers/educators. which type of employees are more impactful to students' education? i think teachers/educators!

When I went there, tuition was, $2300 a YEAR...I remember it was around $700 something per quarter and most went three quarters a year. It's disgusting what Democrats have done to higher education in this country.

The other reason tuition skyrocketed is Obama's federalizing of the student loan program. That drove tuition through the roof because they has all this low interest, easy money and it had to go somewhere....to all those DEI people. It makes me sick. And now they want to f$%ing forgive it on the backs of taxpayers. They should be in prison because it's a crime.
I read where tuition is now $11,000 a year and $35k for out of state, so you know the state is kicking in a lot of money. I'll bet illegal aliens pay in-state tuition

For sure OP, this is part of it. I think the bigger contributor has been the easily available money. The more accessible student loans are the more universities think they can charge. If money was tight for education the universities would have to operate under a totally different financial model. Tons of money equals tons of inflation.

Cultural anthropology was one of the most useful college courses I took. How can you have any understanding of human nature without knowing something about primitive tribes? That is what our species was, before technology advanced. There is no way to understand history or psychology without also studying anthropology.

Of course, admittedly, I could have just read some anthropology books instead of taking classes. And that goes for most college subjects.

Those useless classes are how all the low qualifying affirmative actions students will score enough credits to graduate with a 4 year degree and then go on to become politicians to do the bidding for the rich. Smart enough to read a book, but too stupid enough to really be a leader or thinker.

True...Public Speaking is one of the best electives anybody can take although that "sex ed" elective that was filled up would've been more fun!

I live fairly close to the main campus of University of Washington. I'll occasionally go for a walk thru their campus. The amount of land and buildings that are on that campus is mindboggling. Somebody has to pay for all of that land including the upkeep of the grounds and buildings.

It's all brick and mortar that IMHO is fast becoming obsolete. In todays society there is no reason to physically attend class when it can all be done online.

Sell the land and the buildings and develop new homes. It's prime real estate and there is a land shortage here is Seattle to build new homes as is.

Such a plan would greatly reduce the cost of college tuition. Time to modernize and pass the savings back to the kids!

If they don't teach a class or sweep the floors they shouldn't be on the payroll.

Going to college is literally funding leftist causes, which is why I'd send my kids to trade school. The higher learning institutions in this country are literally toxic at this point... a bunch of overpaid supposed experts who hardly work and preach at me telling me how evil, racist, etc. I am. These leftist causes are basically excuses for people to hand out money to others to do nothing. It's more political corruption under the guise of humanitarianism.
