We desperately need to change mental health laws in this nation. We need “mentally ill but guilty” penalties that state the person either serves the entire time in a mental institute or penal facility. Our justice system is supposed to include protecting society as part of its framework.

Are you an "expert" on the laws?
Maybe the EXISTING laws just ARE not being followed. Like so many other laws the dems ignore.
It is obvious the system failed, before the attack to keep a clearly dangerous person away from vulnerable people, and failed after the attack to properly evaluate the situation and remove him from the world he cannot get along in (yes, I do support the death penalty).
"It is obvious the system failed"
Do some EVER take responsibility for their actions or NON actions?

absolutely. right now mental illness serves as a get-out-of-jail-free card.

I have some knowledge of the laws. Would you care to elaborate on which laws the Democrats ignored, this time. (They ignore so many it is hard to keep track of them.) But I wonder, did they just ignore those laws, or have them removed, so that no one could follow them?

The "system" did NOT fail
The individual PEOPLE failed!
The system is made up of people.
Without the people there is no system, just useless scratching on paper.
OTOH, if we know which screw was loose, it should be replaced.
The elderly gentleman being beaten in the video died two months after his beating, before Jayden's charges were dropped. To add cruelty to the situation, due to Vivid restrictions he was unable to have family members visit him until the week he died. He suffered alone from four broken fingers, broken ribs and a broken jaw as a result of the attack.. Yet, in their infinite wisdom they placed a violent 19 year old Covid positive man in the next bed over.

The people who decided to do that are the ones that should be facing jail time for negligent homicide. There was no reason whatsoever to put covid positive people into elderly nursing homes, when the elderly are supposed to be the most vulnerable. What idiot decided this was okay?
