He's been arrested for physical violence before and he's a registered sex offender.
No comment on the sex offender part other than it would not surprise me, but re: the previous arrests... why wasn't he behind bars? He had no business being out and about.
Whatever may or may not have transpired before he began to attack the black woman, there is no justification. He deserves to be incarcerated for doing what he did.
The NAACP already made a statement. Of course this is going to be looked at as a possible case of racism. But you are right that we don't know all the details and can't make a determination, but of course many people are going to speculate as they always do.

It may very well be. But not every interracial interaction that goes bad is due to racism. Sometimes, people are just jerks, or just mean, and the race of their victim is irrelevant.
When you see the high crime rates committed by a particular race of people, then you'll begin to understand why racism still persists in the U.S. -- it exists all throughout the USA. It's not about skin color, never was in fact, it was always about behavior.

You can never get a CC permit here in this state. Best you can do here is get some pepper spray that's got a good spread on it or something similar. Here the cops would probably arrest you for defending yourself if you use the pepper spray.

Concealed carry is legal in Florida. Open-carry, however, isn't. Florida has Castle Doctrine, so said woman would have no duty to retreat from an attacker. Florida is a "stand your ground" state.

I hope Florida doesn't become a hotbed of racism where minorities have to live in fear from maniacs like this. I don't think it's like that now, but incidents like this are shocking and deserve more attention. This was not classified as a hate crime, but if more details emerge, I suspect that could change. Hopefully this man is brought to justice and Florida can continue being an example of a prosperous republican stronghold and a beacon of hope.
Well, put it in perspective. Florida is the third most populous state in the nation. Number 3. This is an isolated incident. The guy should spend a long time in jail.
