Identity is a tricky concept. For example the share of people identifying as Russian in the Donetsk oblast increased after 2014 compared to 2001 (where you got your statistics from - 60%).
It’s difficult to discuss people’s romantic notions of their own identity. I was speaking from the perspective of “blood and soil” type notions. Eg People in Donbas originated from the same “blood” as Russians in neighboring regions. This is not true for the “pure” Ukrainians out in Lviv.
Key takeaways for the recent accomplishments of Ukrainian army;
"We are honorably retreating to the prepared in advance positions, and our enemy is chasing us in disgrace."
Only someone with no understanding of logistics would believe Russia planned to conquer Ukraine with 100,000 invading army. It’s around 5x too small. Something even Russian generals know if they drank their way through school.
What you witnessed was an established military tactic to allow Russia to establish a toehold in Kherson by pulling the best Ukrainian forces to Kiev. This is they withdrew once they established that land bridge even though there were never any major pitched battles for Kiev.
Not unless they were stupid enough to think they would be greeted as liberators and bring their parade uniforms with them.
Western/propaganda sources. I won’t even waste my time clicking through them.
If Russia expressed those goals, go find me a Russian source. Why trust Western sources on Russian motives lol
If I found a Russian source that stated Putin believed they would be greeted as liberators in Kiev...they would more than likely be sitting in a Russian jail cell for 15 years.

Well that sounds like you just described Vladimir Putin, since that is what he expected and numerous Russian officials said was the goal.

You heard it from Russian officials. You heard it from the Russian soldiers. And the fact that they had only a few days rations.
To believe Kiev was a feint requires you to be really gullible.
So do you know where they are planning to proceed after Donbass? ( Since it's "succinct" according to you.)
