So its ok if Russia hits Kyiv, but how dare they respond?
Sorry but thats not how war works. I can think of a dozen valid military targets in Moscow.
This argument has been made countless times. Ukraine is free to strike inside Russia, course it would be the worst move they could ever make. It would give Putin the justification he is seeking for a mass mobilization. Nothing like a million plus soldiers descending upon your country. Secondly, the U.S. and the major European powers would stop providing weapons since the Ukrainians were instructed not to use them to strike inside of Russia. The U.S. knows it would be a strategic mistake and very likely escalate the conflict to regional.

Hasn't Ukraine already hit some things inside the Russian border?
I agree an attack on Moscow would be ill advised from a considerably smaller military such as Ukraine. Their strategy should be more of a sabotage / fueling the resistance internally to Putin. He's already living in constant fear of assassination, just like Zelensky. Those kinds of activities are where Ukraine can retaliate against Russia, with plausible deniability for themselves.
Meh.. That's probably why we are not there.
We offered Z a ride. Was that wrong, too?.......... Seemed like a pretty good idea to me. Z turned it down and asked for ammo. So we give him all he wants.
And what are those aircrafts doing, basically nothing. The Russians are slowly picking the remaining ones off when they come out the bushes. They can only do so much taking off from roadways. With F-16 they will need airfields and support facilities. Those would have to be housed in Poland or another nearby NATO country making them legitimate targets.
The U.S. needs to get over this nasty habit of trying to stick it to an adversary. Look at the Afghanistan war. The Taliban offered to give up Bin Laden to avoid the conflict. But the U.S. being the U.S. said no preferring to send to a message and get some sort of revenge. Well 20 years and thousands of deaths later we see how that turned out. Rational heads need to prevail.
LOL. Basically nothing? Sure. And the F-16 can fly from highways too.
See you keep saying things that just aren't true, and then just assume everyone's going to follow along believing your nonsense from that point.
The F-16 can fly into airports for maintenance when needed that cannot be done out in the field, but really its one of our lower maintenance birds.
And most importantly theres one simple fact you just seem to still ignore. It can carry NATO weapons. That means harpoons, mavericks, HARM, etc etc. Thats a massive deal.
PS your nonsense about Afghanistan leaves out a important part. They refused to turn him over to the US. Just like Russia now, Afghanistan underestimated the US's strength. They believed their own propaganda they told about us.
And some more good news, Polands 240 upgraded T-72s have arrived as well as some M270s (Basically HIMARS but one tracks with 2X the launchers). The M270s are believed to be from the UK, which means they have enhanced armor vs IEDs.
All of these don't sound like much, but week after week as weapons pour in, this is how you boil the Russian frog.
Yup, Russia's Eastern border is a mess right now, they should be smarter about how much weaker they are then the West and Europe. Otherwise it is going to much uglier for them than it already is now.
Troll bots on C-D aren't doing them any favors, as can be seen on this thread. Their desperation is really pitiful.
Agreed.
How do they explain this fiasco of theirs to the boss?
Whatever happened to us keeping our nose out of other countries business? They are not part of NATO and we are not beholden to them in any way except through Hunter and the big guy's money.
It's not just the USA that is helping Ukraine. Most EU countries are helping. Countries far away such as Australia and Taiwan are helping also.
The USA got involved in WWII to fight Hitler even though the war wasn't in our backyard. Putin is the modern day equivalent of Hitler. Helping Ukraine fight Putin's aggression is a worthy cause. Other dictatorial countries such as China, Iran, and North Korea are watching this war carefully. How the world responds to Putin's aggression will either deter them or embolden them to attack other countries.
It's important to send a message to terrorist and dictatorial countries that their act of terror and aggression won't be tolerated.
You are the one who mentioned, and without any serious thought and with much levity, striking Russia proper. Were you aware of what that'd mean, you'd think before typing.
Assuming their nukes work you would have a point. Given what we've seen over centuries with Russian military I have serious doubts that they would work.

I recall a Defense Department person saying something like that not long after the Soviet Union collapsed. He said that with what we have learned recently about their systems, if there had been a nuclear exchange with the USSR then Canada and Mexico would have been toast.
Three missiles were fired into Odesa.
No injuries, and most importantly, two of them were shot down! These were Kalibr cruise missile, which were launched from a submarine. That makes a pretty expensive launch.
I'd be curious to find out how Ukrainians are now able to shoot down incoming cruise missiles.
