Todays Update

https://www.understandingwar.org/bac...ment-august-14

Quote:
Russian and proxy troops in Ukraine are likely operating in roughly six groups of forces oriented on Kharkiv City and northeastern Kharkiv Oblast; along the Izyum-Slovyansk line; the Siversk-Lysychansk area; Bakhmut; the Avdiivka-Donetsk City area; and Southern Ukraine.
Key Takeaways

Quote:
Russian and proxy troops in Ukraine are operating in roughly six force groupings.

Russian forces conducted ground attacks north of Kharkiv City, northwest of Slovyansk, east of Siversk, and made unspecified gains around Bakhmut.

Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a Wagner force concentration in Popasna, Luhansk Oblast, inflicting casualties.

Forty-two states called on Russian forces to withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar, just two to four hours before another strike hit Enerhodar.

Ukrainian forces struck the Antonivsky road bridge, likely keeping all three road bridges to and on the right bank of the Dnipro inoperable to heavy equipment.

Russian military recruitment and enlistment centers continue to face challenges in incentivizing Russians to sign military service contracts.

Russian occupation authorities continued rubleization measures and civilian data collection in occupied territories to set conditions for annexation referenda.
Activity in Russian-occupied Areas

Quote:
Russian occupation authorities continued efforts to increase control of occupied territories through rubleization measures and collection of civilian data to set conditions for annexation referenda. Deputy Head of the Kherson occupation administration Kirill Stremousov stated that businesses in occupied Kherson Oblast are seeking to exclusively conduct business with rubles instead of hryvnias.[73] Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported that Kherson City occupation authorities are pressuring ambulance workers to sign forms consenting to work for the new occupation government and receive payments in rubles rather than hryvnias.[74] GUR also stated that Russian occupation authorities are continuing to collect personal passport data from recipients of humanitarian aid, civilians who contact the occupation government, and customers of Russian mobile phone services.[75] Occupation authorities can leverage financial incentives and personal information to coerce Ukrainian civilians into cooperating with the occupation government, including coercion to vote in favor of the referenda. Ukrainian Luhansk Oblast Head Serhiy Haidai stated that Russian occupation authorities are campaigning for a referendum among displaced civilians in Svatove, Luhansk Oblast, promising to “solve all their problems” if the displaced civilians vote in favor of the referendum.

India is Russia's biggest supporter in this war. They not only increase Russian oil purchase by 500%. They also do business with Russia in Ruble. They resold Russian oil to the US by hiding where the oil came from. It's time for the US to reconsider their relationship with India.

In other words, Russia knows about all that and is fighting a war against the West, which has never ceased to try and destroy Russia, even during the "friendly" decade of the 90's. Initially the Russian traitors (fifth column) fell for the smiling faces, they didn't understand what was going on. But Putin sooner or later understood. And when he started to defend Russia and reconstruct its sovereignty and economy, the West started to portray Russia as being aggressive etc. in order to drive a wedge between Europe and Russia. Europeans are a bit dimwitted...

The recent talk about decolonizing Russia, i.e. splitting it up in several countries, confirms those sinister plans.

Hence Russia's war against Nato in Ukraine is vital to Russia, and it won't lose it, either it will win, or the whole world will lose, if you get what I mean.
So the whole world should bend to the will of the wise benevolent Russian “empire”, or Russia will destroy the world.

Those poor dim witted Europeans just misunderstand papa Putin’s intentions.

True, but it's not this easy. India is needed to counteract China in the future. Many countries will be needed to counter China in 4-5 years.

...
I agree.

India has never been as close to the USA as it has been to the Soviet Union/or more recently Russia, so this is nothing new.

Totally agree..

It has always confused me how the US and India have such close business relationships and seemingly aligned but yet US is allied with Pakistan while India is closely tied to Russia.

As Joe points out, it all has to do with discounts and little else. India will do what is best for India.

Also pointed out is, if the war is still going on next year things will be very different for Russia. Europe will have reached to stage where Russian oil and gas purchases will be very small and more pressure can be placed on India. Don't forget, US and Europe make up a huge portion of India's exports.

After WW2 Russia occupied and subjugated the countries it had conquered. America and its allies made trading partners with their conquests, Japan and Germany, and over the next 37 years they strangled the USSR by leaving them out of the trade agreements.
Russia is making the same mistake all over again. In time the sanctions and boycotts will do to Russia what the Breton Woods free trade agreement did to them from 1945 to 1992. But this time it won't take 37 years because Russia is facing a population decline.

Oil is at $87 today. That means Russia must sell it for $55 or so. We should remember that $50 is the amount usually used when estimating drilling and shipping costs.
Russia will be economically destroyed.

Not as close as you imagine.
Watch the first part of the video and Joe will show who India trades with. There wasn't much trading done with Russia until Russia had to offer huge discounts.

I often wonder how brainwashed the average Russian citizen is? Are they as bad as N Koreans? Do they literally worship their exalted leader as all knowing and all powerful?

Personally I'd like to think that the younger generation of Russians know that Putin is an egomaniac that is screwing up their whole country because of his ego and greed.

I don't care what BS propaganda that he's spewing out... time will show how bad off the economy will be for Russia in 2023 and onwards.

Russians live under a dictatorship. They are silenced by fear.

In addition, for centuries Russians always have had a sheep mentality, and I don't think it is about to change. I am sorry for them.

Those few who dared to raise their voices against the dictator, have been poisoned, shot, jailed and tortured, or just disappeared one day.
