Russia has flipped the financial world upside down. Good wake up call showing that the USA is not in charge of the globe. Not so full of swagger any more. Bunch of Chicken Littles reacting to the media scare tactics, using food, and creature comforts as a psychological weapon. Ukraine captured a few villages, planted flags for "proof" that they are "beating" the mighty "Russkies" and sending them on the run. lol.

I wouldn't say flipped the financial world upside down but has shown limitations of sanctions. After the sanctions imposed on Venezuela and Iran, I believe many felt Western economic powers were invincible. Russia thus far has shown this not to be the case. There are limits. The U.S. overuses and misuses its economic power. When you have sanctions on 10% of the world, that is not a good thing.

Didn't know we were on the 20th package. Makes me wonder, with all this aid and weapons, why has Ukraine been unable to move Russian forces out of the country? Afghanistan was able to defeat 2 world powers with Ak-47 and RPGs.

Reports are coming out that Ukrainian forces have captured Russian ammo dumps and are now thoughtfully returning the shells to the rightful owners. So there is that.
Perhaps this will result in more "gestures of goodwill" from the Russian forces.

And that only took, what, 9 years in the case of the first and 20 in the case of the second?
Of course, it may be thought noteworthy that the Soviets suffered 15,000 KIA over 9 years in Afghanistan - a figure that they have already reached, by conservative estimates, in about 6 months in Ukraine.

Apparently the Czechen (sp?) special forces commander has explained on Russian TV that it's a all a ploy to lure the Ukrainians to positions "where it would be more convenient to fight them".
The Wehrmacht used the term "Frontverkürzung", "front shortening", when they had to deliver bad news. Wonder what that is in Russian?
I think you are looking at wrong. Europe and the U.S. are the ones going after Russia. They literally weaponized the financial system. They have shown the world the potential pitfalls of relying on Western based currencies and financial systems. Russia counters are understandable especially considering the circumstances. The world needs oil and gas. As such there will always be a market. Putin believes (whether real or imagined) that other markets will pick up the slack, even if he has to sale at a discount. So far, he has been right. Regardless Europe is still buying Russian energy. Basically, Saudi Arabia and China purchase the Russian energy products at a discount and then resell it to Europe (and even America) at full price.
I think we are just not communicating well because you just basically said what I was saying. Russia having to sell at a discount instead of a good price for some future time period is not a good thing for them.
Oh well. That's down the road and Russia has far bigger problems right now than future oil sale prices.
