Hard to see what other options Russia will have.

When this war ends, Russia will be impoverished, a pariah nation painted as war criminals by the bodies they've left behind.

At some point, a good deal of what remains of the Russian military will likely be blown to bits in Crimea.

Russian economy will struggle under the burden of sanctions, and Europe weaning itself off their gas and oil.

China will offer support, but it will come at a price.

Putin can run again in 2024:

The president is elected directly through a popular vote to a six-year term. Previously, the Russian Constitution established term limit for the presidency restricting the officeholder to serve no more than two terms. However, this limitation has since been overhauled in large part due to the constitutional amendments that were ratified in 2020. One of the amendments passed reset the terms of both Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev, allowing either to serve as president for a full two terms regardless of their previous terms. In all, three individuals have served four presidencies spanning six full terms. In May 2012, Vladimir Putin became the fourth president; he was re-elected in March 2018 and inaugurated in May to a six-year term. He will be eligible for re-election in 2024.

EU now reports gas storage is at 85.3% of capacity. Here's a breakdown by country and a discussion of what some countries must do.
They had wanted to be at 80% by November.

1. High-volume and multichannel
2. Rapid, continuous, and repetitive
3. Lacks commitment to objective reality
4. Lacks commitment to consistency.
The problem in this day and age is that there are many ways to get information and if your propaganda is wildly out of step with reality then even the loyalists will roll their eyes.

Additionally, much of the propaganda is for internal consumption and frankly I'd think a lot of Russians are used to a certain amount of BS from their govt. media.

Russia is losing the war of attrition, and the final battles will likely be fought in Crimea.
Virtually nobody has been leaving since August 17. The bridge must be destroyed.

Crimean Bridge Closed For Civilians For Transferring Military Equipment From RF To Peninsula

The occupiers blocked the Crimean Bridge to transfer equipment from the Russian Federation to the peninsula, as well as to stop the mass flight of people from Crimea. This was announced on Wednesday, August 17, by the member of the Kherson Regional Council, Serhii Khlan, on the air of the telethon.
According to him, the Kerch Bridge was temporarily closed for the passage of civilians in order to achieve several goals at once.

Khlan noted that, first of all, Russia wants to stop the mass departure of people from occupied Crimea who fled after the explosions on the peninsula. This will help to create a picture for the mass media that allegedly no one is leaving the captured peninsula because there is no danger.

China is the one who is "aligning" with neo-Nazis. Putin is the closest thing to a fascist leader in the world today.
