Have you NOT read where training CAN be provided? HAS been PROVIDED?
So is the armed teacher OBLIGATED to confront the shooter? What if they don’t? What if they flee with their students instead? What happens to the teacher then?

I understand this is Texas but no. Not a good idea. Maybe one or two former military people if they are there.

Efffective use of a gun requires training -- lots of it. In any gun vs. gun situation, my money is on Experience. Teachers holding handguns would lose, every time, against an experienced gunman.

He purchased 6750 rounds just days before the shooting! Wonder how many he used in the school.

Unknown if he had any experience with firearms before his purchase.
Where did the kid get the money for al this? Grandparents?

And let me tell you. School staff snap. That's a real risk.

Also there are special needs kids in schools that can take your weapon and use it. Having everyone packing in a school is a horrible idea. The odds of friendly fire or accidents or a number of problems are high.

My solution is more of a campus style setup. Parents and staff move freely in and out but if you are not a parent or staff you can't just make up an excuse and come in.

That is to say, realistic experience to the point of automatic action.

Otherwise, panic sets in (and panic doesn't always look like frenzy...panic very often looks like "taking time to carefully consider the situation").

That becomes fairly obvious when we look at the differences in reaction between the police in this case and an experienced Marine combat patrol on the streets of Baghdad. The Marine patrol would not "take time to carefully consider the situation" after taking a few shots from a building.

Very few police officers have that level of training and experience. That's not just experience in standing at a range shooting at paper, that's experience in being shot at.

The only “experienced gunman” that has committed a school shooting in the last two decades was Lanza. The rest have been wannabe headlines with no experience.

Our culture is broken, not our God given rights.
There is no god, so there are no god given rights. You may have a favorite imaginary supernatural friend, but that doesn't make it any more real than Leprechauns or Faeries that many Irish still believe in.

The USA has one of the worst gun laws in the world. Proof? The worst first world nation in gun deaths. Many other first world nations have citizens with guns, but they control WHO gets them, subject to training and licensing, and significant restrictions on what kind. Handguns usually are a no go or very, very restricted.

The Wild West attitude is so.... 19th century, and we are in the 21st.

You mean like the coward police who didn't go in.

Oh wait!!!

They did. To rescue their own children, and then left again. For an hour. Cowards!

A public school? Is that part of the regular curriculum or an after school activity or other elective?
