the problem here and all the other cases of school shootings is not about guns, or gun laws... its that we as a country (meaning both parties) don't do a thing about mental health.
this kid, the one from Sandy Hook...if they had been addressed and institutionalized, the shootings would not have happened...that is a fact...
when republicans (and the NRA even) suggested mental health be part of the background checks.....liberals balked
When did Republicans suggest mental health be part of background checks. Link please.
And how much of funding does the Republican Party make for mental health. Links and data please.
To answer your question, we do not have a Democrat Government. The Senate is still split. Go back in history and you will see the Democrats repeatedly have passed gun bans and gun restrictions. Start with the Jim Crow laws in the south that prevented Blacks from having guns. Then go to the federal laws that were passed when the Democrats control the White House, House and Senate. 1934, 1938, 1968 and 1994. Each time the Democrats had control they passed a major federal gun law. The ONLY reason that did not happen during Obama's first two years was he was focused on health care. Then the Republicans came back in the mid term and that pretty much stopped any more gun laws. So if the Democrats take control of the Senate in this election then expect a new federal gun law. Perhaps a red flag law and universal gun registration, except they call that back ground checking.

2015...Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, Mental Health and Safe Communities Act, would incentivize states to better report psychiatric records to the federal background check system. The bill drew praise from both the National Rifle Association and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

I see no ' fact' in your projection that the gun toter would have not massacred young children. You cannot make an assumption when the ONLY true fact is: HE Did use a deadly weapon . He shot using a GUN . He and the gun are equally accountable for the loss of life. Had he used a straw and spit balls ...then I could say lives were spared.
Gun regulation is necessary . Just like the govt regulates how much of a pay raise they grant themselves.
Democrats control House, Senate and Presidency. They blame Republicans for not doing anything about gun crimes.
The blood of 19 children and 2 adults is on THEIR hand, no? They claim to have the solution to the problem. Why have they done nothing?
Because either 10 republicans need to vote with them, or the filibuster needs to be eliminated in order to pass legislation.
Basic civics.
Now - why won’t ten “pro-life” republicans vote to try to stop the killing of children who are already born? It’s a mystery to most of us.
