Yeah, I saw it, and noted it was short on condolences, and long on the need for gun control.
Reports were saying the shooter was armed with a handgun, and possibly a rifle. In Texas, the minimum age to purchase a long gun is 18 and 21 to purchase a handgun. So he was too young to have legally purchased the handgun.
There is no age restriction on possessing guns in Texas, but you have to be 21 or older to carry a concealed handgun without a license under the permitless carry law that went into effect last September.
And it’s generally not legal to carry a handgun on K-12 public school property, though one Republican lawmaker sought to make that possible for licensed adults in the last session of the Texas legislature.
There are no specific state law restrictions on carrying a rifle. https://guides.sll.texas.gov/gun-laws/carry-of-firearms
A Border Patrol agent is being credited with killing the gunman in a deadly mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday.
No statement has been released, but an anonymous law enforcement official told the Associated Press that an agent rushed into Robb Elementary School without waiting for backup. The Border Patrol agent shot and killed the gunman, who was hiding behind a barricade, this source said. The as-yet unidentified agent was wounded but able to walk out of the school, the source added.
Interesting take from a survivor of gun violence on Biden's speech
Quote:
Cameron Kasky, a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, criticized President Biden's response to Tuesday's shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
Quote:
"Joe Biden goes up there and talks about how it's horrible to lose a family member ... and says that it's bad that mass violence happens. It's great that he thinks it's bad. But I can tell you that gun control organizers, people who believe in gun safety, common-sense gun safety laws, around the country were waiting to hear the words 'executive order' and instead we heard the words, essentially, thoughts and prayers," Kasky added.
It's definitely not the fault of the shooter at all. How can you blame the kid?
Let's put blame where it belongs. Every legal, law-abiding gun owner in the USA, who has never shot anyone (very important requirement) or broken a law, is completely responsible for this shooting and needs to have his or her gun(s) confiscated immediately. Enough is enough. Those responsible for this must pay. We must get all the guns from the legal, law-abiding gun owners, and end these shootings once and for all.
This is a bad tragedy. With all the violence and death on the border and human trafficking and abuse of children, I find funny the outrage just on this. This outrage should be all the time until the government reacts.
Biden talks about gun control only in the U.S. when he just sent 50 billion dollars in weapons to Ukraine and the U.S. spends 79% of the world 3 trillion dollars weapon spending a year by selling arms to many countries. It's sick watching him acting about selective violence and guns when he does the opposite.
You have to be 21 to legally buy alcohol in this country, but the last two 18-year-old mass shooters were able to buy their own guns legally.

As i posted earlier, the 18 year-old in the most recent Uvalde shooting was not old enough to have legally purchased the handgun he reportedly used, at least not in the state of Texas. An 18 year-old could purhase a long gun, though.
Update to my previous post:
"The gunman, who was wearing body armor, crashed his car outside the school before going inside, Sgt. Erick Estrada of the Texas Department of Public Safety told CNN.
He killed his grandmother before heading to the school with two military-style rifles he had purchased on his birthday, Gutierrez said. (state Sen. Roland Gutierrez)
“That was the first thing he did on his 18th birthday,” he said. https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/...ooter-84940954
