That pesky due process thing………

Ever notice the shooters of a large mass of random people don’t have exit plans? They don’t expect to survive.

The Parkland shooter was an exception and saw an opportunity to exit and ran out with the mass of humanity fleeing the school. From there he stopped for a soda at Subway at Walmart and then headed to Mc Donald’s for lunch- not a care in the world.

5 years later, he awaits sentencing and has a fan base. Some of them write daily and send him $ for the commissary.

I think we were successful in keeping weapons off aircraft. That surely helped. We can extrapolate that to school and mall shootings: Keep weapons out of the hands of the mentally ill.

That stuff about arming teachers or more guards is not really going to work. Remember, I have seen two instances of students in schools I attended stealing stuff from teachers. That was in the sixties. Joe Pepitone was shot in high school in Brooklyn by a kid playing with a gun in the fifties.

There is a reported case from the seventies of a teacher who was a gunsmith having a gun stolen from his things in a school and then leaving money on his desk to get it back. The school tried to fire the teacher.

At my son's high school (he's been out of school since 2010) the doors were locked during school hours and if you needed access to the school, you had to be buzzed in by the office staff after showing them ID and giving them the name of your child. It was a system that worked and is easily put in place now - during summer vacation.
most likely, all 5 of those were forgetful idiots, that if charged/fined properly, would never make the mistake again.

And yes, I'm surprised there are still schools in this country that don't have locked doors and security cameras.

The one entrance idea being pushed at the NRA convention by Trump and crowd is so out of touch with the reality of old school buildings without air conditioning that are relying on temporary classroom trailers for overcrowding. Because those same people vote down school bonds and levies for funding.

Nonsense to be blaming these things on doors. He started off shooting through the windows. What’s next we should have armored cars used as busses?

What good are guards who don’t act?

I don’t favor borrowing funds for either scenario. If Congress wants to spend $50 B, well more than asked for, well then, by golly, increase federal income taxes to pay for it,over say 5 years.
cut all federal spending across the board by 2%, & we'll have plenty of $ to implment Barr's ideas, AND not have to increase taxes.

There, fixed it for you...w/o any new taxes, or tax increases!

Gov't parasites are already consuming ~50% of GDP, so total spending must shrink. Note this chart is through 2018, so doesn't capture Trillions in Covid + infrastructure wasteful spending:

Gov't doesn't generate economic growth, so the more it takes, the less capital there is to stimulate growth in the private sector.

If Americans do not learn about how this all works, our economy will collapse...please educate yourselves and save America.

None of that has worked and is simply a deflection from reasonable restrictions on our gun problem.

Devote more resources to security in a nation with declining math, English and science scores makes little sense. How about addressing the disease rather than the symptom.
While I agree there's no need for any number of armed guards at each and every school, simply locking doors from the outside will do the trick. Sadly, we do need higher-level security at middle/high school.
Regardless, for those who HAVE armed teachers and SRO's...what's your evidence it hasn't worked? By your logic, EVERY school is a target ... so why hasn't every school had a mass shooting? Why are we talking fewer than 10 in-building mass murder attempts in 10 years.

The US spends 37% more on average per student than OECD countries. What we spend isn't the issue.

I suppose a better chance to escape when outside at least but not in the gym or auditorium.
why haven't they already?

A person with an AR-15 is getting into a school. I seriously doubt the windows can stop a bullet from an AR-15.

Now with interest rates rising within years servicing the debt will consume the entire federal budget. I am all for a 2% cut in spending to secure all schools. We need to cut spending in a massive way. But its never going to happen. Not with this congress.
