For years, presidential administrations have routinely abused TPS by not ending its designations when the initial qualifying condition(s) are no longer occurring in a designated country. Subsequently, the program has been used as a “soft amnesty” for illegal aliens to remain in the United States, as most designations are rarely terminated.

Maybe we should charge them money to enter the U.S.?
Instead of them paying smugglers to smuggle themselves into the country, instead we should have a quicker process where they can enter legally, pay a few grand for an entrance fee, and they get proper documentation, probationary SS #'s and I.D. cards in return, and can be on track to become citizens in about a decade, provided their criminal record remains spotless. If they wish to get official citizenship, then we should charge them more money.

Maybe charge a $5,000 entrance fee per person, and then charge another $7,000 if they wish to become citizens later on.
If they commit a crime anytime before becoming citizens, then they should be deported and not allowed to return.

I'm shocked only 83 Dems signed on to it.

There's nothing wrong with TPS as written. Given "singular event" upheavals (hurricanes, earthquakes, civil war), they can come for 18 months until their home country settles down.

The problem with TPS is those who have been here more than 18 months, and those who years after TPS was granted want to also come from their "home country" (Haiti for ex)

Nope! We have annual quotas for legal immigration into our country and that would negate that sane policy. We also have to do background checks on legal immigrants and make sure they will be a benefit to our society and not a burden while keeping population growth in mind to.

You know, and I know.

Not a coincidence at all.

Purposeful and deliberate.
