I'd probably do more UAE. Fleeing America to Europe to avoid taxes is pretty damn stupid.

On the other hand I like US culture and the weather is much better here in coastal CA. It's never worked out but I've put in applications with a few international companies where I'd split time between the Dubai, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands. I'd probably pick the Netherlands to base out of ultimately although definitely if avoiding taxes was the major issues UAE or HK would be far better than the Netherlands.

Thats probably true for regular health insurance too.

It is very much socialized and why we have Medicare in the first place. Where the private sector can't or fears to tread, and there is vast public need, the federal gov't steps in.

The unfortunate reality is that seniors need so many HC services, that most could not afford them without some central assistance. Even then HC remains a great expense for seniors. Medicare is still a very good deal for them today. The great equalizer is that most all of us will enjoy the largesse before we pass on.

Actually Marketplace insurance doesn't cost $1200 a month after age 60. After DH retired I had to get my own plan which was $500 a month - mid plan with a $6500 deductible - after subsidies I paid $349. Once he retired I got the same plan for $181 with the subsidy. I am now paying $170 something for Medicare - $203 for part G and $25 for part D.

I think the point many are trying to make is when they receive a Medicare increase the vast majority of it used up due to Medicare increase and supplemental increases leaving them little to use on increases like rent, foot, auto ect...

That's a very reasonable premium, all things considered. Costs do vary by state. Still an outrageous deductible and then the OOPs, along with network restrictions.

Over the years we've had many posts from 60's people anxiously awaiting Medicare b/c their premiums for one person were well over $1,200 mo. It may be these people opted for lower deductibles and more comprehensive benefits - i.e., gold/silver plans v. bronze.

Medicare deductibles are laughable in comparison to most ACA plans.

Marketplace (ACA) policies are capped at 3x the base rate for age. That is if the base rate is $250, the most they can charge is $750. Depending on your state that may not even be true. Some of them insurers are not allowed to consider age at all when setting their insurance premium rates so a 64 year-old would have identical rates to a 22 year-old. The 3x is just the maximum allowable under federal law, so several of them charge less than that.
